John Terry had barely dried his eyes before the clamour for the bandwagon started.  Obviously the jokes about his penalty miss were expected but clearly they didn’t provide the anti-Chelsea mob with enough venom to hurl in his direction. And with Didier Drogba blatantly the villain of the night, even his unbelievable antics seem to have been largely overshadowed as the world and his wife have levelled accusations of ‘spitting’ at the Chelsea captain.

On watching a video that shows Terry obviously having a go at Tevez, the jury have unanimously concluded that he ‘spits’ at the Argentine’s neck. But if they can actually see anything coming out of Terry’s mouth then they’ve got better eyesight than me because the only thing Terry can be seen spitting at Tevez in the clip are words.

The Chelsea captain who could now have one of the worst night’s of his career dissected in a Uefa investigation categorically denies the claims. Terry openly admits “there was some pushing and shoving”, but with regards to giving Tevez anything but a verbal battering says “That is not my style. No way would I spit at another player.” And rightly so.

Surely the fact that Carlos Tevez himself has only said “I do not understand the attitude of Terry. He told me that I was not a sportsman because I would not put the ball out. For me, this is a forgotten subject now,” tells its own story? Would Utd really decide not to take action against any Chelsea player if they felt there was a case to answer? I hardly think so.

So, while we wait for Uefa to have a read of the ref’s report and come to their own conclusion I’ve no doubt the media will continue to do Terry as much damage as possible – I suppose Lampard and Cole can only generate so many headlines after all.
