Carvalho Happy To Stay At ‘Cruel’ Chelsea?

Not content with linking Ricardo Carvalho with a move away from Stamford Bridge, the press’ latest offering is that the Portuguese defender is now prepared to stay but regards the club he plays for as “cruel”. According to the boys from the daily’s, Carvalho has ‘condemned’ Chelsea for sacking Grant and would’ve sought a transfer if it wasn’t for Scolari’s appointment.

Carvalho was recently quoted as saying “Avram did a great job, but they still decided to sack him. Yet after Jose Mourinho left, he picked up the team and got good results. We had a great run and in the Champions League he was only one penalty from winning the competition. It was very cruel.” Of course it was cruel, we were within a penalty kick of the biggest prize in any club’s history and it didn’t happen.

Then again, our 30 year old defender is reported to have said “He (Grant) did a great job and he could have carried on, but they decided to let him go. It was very ruthless. The new manager will be my third in a year, and in football you need stability if you want to be successful.” And he’s got a point, although not about Grant in my opinion.

Still, on a brighter note, when he’s not busy slating Chelsea, Carvalho seems to be committing his future to that ‘cruel’ club he plays for, by saying “I know there are stories about me, too, and in football you never know what can happen. But I have a contract at Chelsea and I have not spoken to Jose Mourinho about (joining) Inter Milan, or to my agent (who he just so happens to share with his ex-boss) about a move.”  And if his relationship with Jose was ‘close’, what about his relationship with Scolari, who’s been his mentor for the past five years? Well, on that, Carvalho says “He has chosen me as one of the five captains he will use at the Euros because he believes I have the skills to lead the team and help out the younger players. I’m very honoured that he sees me as a role model.” And by way of return, Scolari says “He has been doing a fantastic job for me these last five years. I think he, more than anybody, has united the Portuguese people around our team.”

So with this manager/player love-fest in full swing, should JT be worried about his captaincy at club level as well?

One Response to “Carvalho Happy To Stay At ‘Cruel’ Chelsea?”

  1. Nah……I doubt JT would have anything to worry about. While Carvalho is maybe a better all round defender, JT’s leadership skills are second to none.

As for his comments on Grant, he must be one of a chosen few to actually have been sad to see him sacked, as its been reported enough times that the players didnt see eye to eye with him and for me that tells me that there must be some truth in it.

Also he mentioned stability, with Scolari hitting the 60 mark and with his record to date averaging around 2.5 years per club, I dont think well have much stability from him. wether it be down to himself or either RA throwing his toys out of the pram again we’ll just have to wait and see.
