Will Rafa Get The Cash At Liverpool?

With the dust not even settled after a (trophy-less) year of in-fighting at Anfield, Rafa’s rumoured to be ready to re-ignite the fireworks. Because after spending a few million last season, he’s obviously got a taste for it and recent reports suggest he’s just put in a request for £50million spending money this time round.

Having brought Torres to Liverpool last summer, this time the Spaniard wants to add David Villa and David Silva whilst still trying to persuade Martin O’Neill to accept bids for Gareth Barry. Sadly for Rafa though, he’s so far been unable to offload Alonso, Crouch and Carson and raise any funds himself, although with him holding out for amounts like the £12million he wants for Crouch it’s hardly surprising. So whether he’ll get any or all of the three on his wish-list remains to be seen. Still, at least we know he’s got a sense of humour.

Out of interest was Rafa being quick to dismiss these reports as ‘ridiculous’, yet notably, it only appeared to be a move for Dani Alves Benitez actually ruled out. But then, with last year’s outburst over transfer restrictions nearly costing him his job, maybe he’s just playing it safe?

Benitez insists he’ll be challenging for the title next season - then again he always pays lip-service to that – but while Hicks is promising some kind of kitty, getting Gillett to agree might be a different ball game altogether, unless of course he believes the line we’re fed every season – that this will be Liverpool’s year?

  1. is this not meant to be a chelsea site?

  2. Yeah, I know, it’s just not right for a big, wealthy club to spend all that money and not win anything.

  3. Yeah you would of thought so wouldnt you, just like the Mancs - our rivals cant stop talking about us……what is the fascination with LFC?

  4. Every year is ‘Liverpool’s year’, every year they are going to ‘challenge for the title’ and quite simply, I’m never going to believe it until I see it! If Rafa doesn’t mess around with the team, they have every chance of ‘challenging’, not winning it but at least still being in the hunt post-christmas.

  5. It’s a big pity that Liverpool finished the season without a trophy. The club should dole out bucks to Rafa to go to the transfer market for top players. Without bucks, you can’t have top players and without top players, you can’t win trophies.

  6. Why are you so obsessed with Liverpool? you will never be as good as us and will never have the same respect, you are hated and you are everything football fans hate

    plastic fans, plastic flags

  7. Dave - Yes it is a Chelsea site, but considering Liverpool are “supposed” to be one of our rivals for the title I think that gives us the right to look at what you lot are up to. Always worth a laugh imo.

  8. Not as much of a laugh as spending a fortune and still ending with a ‘trophy-less” season.

  9. trophyless with a team thats worth a fraction of yours…who are the bigger losers

  10. can you not read the press yourself or do you just regurgitate what your morons tell you…clinging to a story thats already been proven to be lies…are chelsea fans worried

  11. Yes …. another trophy-less season for Liverpool ….. just like it was for a number of other clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea !

  12. liverpool so many average players each season because they do not have enough money. if the two americans sell their shares to DIC, then there will be able to buy villa and silva. otherwise they will only get the likes of dosena, pennant and milner

  13. It is always good for competition for all teams to be signing good players! Let’s hope Liverpool can compete with all the top teams so the league gets stronger and stronger. More excitement for our dosh.

  14. 400 million and still no Champions League…Roman must be fed up to the back teeth with his crappy toy. Some teams only get one crack at it and you have blown yours!

Still, at least you’ll be self sufficient one day, hopefully before the close of the millenium; perhaps you might play decent attacking footie by then…then again, perhaps not, you plastic flag waving, plastic fans - apologies to anyone who is a proper Chelski fan, I just don’t bump into many of those these days and I doubt whether any of you internet warriors even recognise the name.

  15. ‘It’s a big pity that Liverpool finished the season without a trophy’. - clearly some of you are not without a sense of irony?

It’s even bigger pity that, at the fourth time of asking you finally beat Liverpool in a semi final only to then spunk the final to Cornwall United. No bottle for the big occasion, clearly.

In case you’re still unsure what happened to your club last season, allo wme to spell it out…YOU WON NOTHING.

  16. Liverpool fan here - Shouldnt the title read, 400M spent and still no European Cup. Chelsea to throw another 100M at it……

Hilarious - The only team in History to spend 400M in 5 years and STILL not be able to win the one that matters (all thanks to Captain Fantastic).

Get the plastic flags out again boys as you can’t buy what Liverpool, United and Arsenal have…….

  17. Here we go with the same old tripe……Plastic fans, etc….blah blah blah….

What exactly do Liverpool, ManU and Arsenal have ?

Gonna play the history card?………Get real mate.

  18. Face the facts. Last time Liverpool won the league the internet and blogs did not even exist! And the last time Spurs won it you could only watch it in black and white on Movietone.
Liverpool make out they don t spend any money, but their record on this is almost as embarassing as Chelsea s
