Drogba: Decision Imminent?

In the uncertainty of the transfer market, with the press second-guessing and supporters keeping fingers tightly crossed, it’s reassuring to see that some things will always remain unchanged. No, I’m not talking about the lack of a signature on Frank Lampard’s contract, but Didier Drogba’s ability to test the patience of even the most tolerant of supporters.

After a season which saw the return of his balance deficiency, coupled with some kind of tourette’s-like affliction in the presence of the media, Drogba’s ‘performance’ in the Champions League final looked to have been his parting shot to a club he’d clearly fallen out of love with. And whoring himself around Europe’s clubs as soon as the last ball was kicked only confirmed a move was imminent.

Luiz Felipe Scolari appeared to have other ideas however, publicly announcing the Ivorian was “200% in his plans” for the coming season, and with the major clubs in Europe distancing themselves from speculation in the press and the only serious bidding being done via a Marseille supporters’ whip-round, his decision to leave looked to have wavered.

But wait, we all knew a decision would never be reached that easily - particularly by a man who’s decision making bears a striking resemblance to someone with OCD leaving the bathroom – and of course we’d be right. Because, the latest instalment from his agent appears to be yet another ‘come get him’ plea to potential buyers. Whilst telling us that “there is nothing to say he won’t stay at Chelsea”, Thierno Seydi appears to be telling the rest of the football world something entirely different when he says “Didier has given himself 10 days. If nothing happens he’ll stay and extend his contract by two years.”

So, assuming that by “if nothing happens”, he isn’t alluding to Drogba being snapped up by the directors of ‘Platoon II’, it’s a fair bet what he really means is ‘if no-one comes up with a better offer’. One might even suggest that his latest bout of indecision has something to do with reports linking him with a move to Barcelona, but that would surely make him a mercenary? Perish the thought!

  1. Drogba is good striker which i will like to see in chelsea jersey come next season but if he insist on leaving. Please let him go and replace him with Samuel Eto o. Up Blues

  2. Drogba transfer talk sure seems to have cooled off lately. The only “strong” transfer rumor seemed to be Drogs’ transfer to AC Milan, but that happened near the beginning of the offseason. Even Inter and Mourinho didn’t seem seriously interested. The current Barca transfer doesn’t seem to have any legs either.

Doesn’t it seem odd that the 10 days he is giving himself would end after Chelsea have left for Asia?

Maybe he is just a little upset that Lamps has shifted the media circus away from him?

  3. Drogba isnt the only one here after a big pay day. If Drogba stays at Chelsea then his agent will not get a slice of any potential fee that would come our way. Obviously he’ll be bending over backwards to see Drogba gets the move he wants or has wanted for the past 3 seasons.

It comes across as desperate move from his agent to put a few quid in his pocket. He knows that there has been no solid interest in Drogba from anyone.

Maybe we could chip into the Marseille fund to help him on his way?

  4. He is our best striker, where as if he decided to leave our clube let him free because our club can bring best sreiker …….

  5. Drogba can fuck off, but if Barca aren’t willing to trade Eto’o, then never mind

  6. I think Drogba shouldve been the first player out the door this summer tbh. He may well be a great player on his day but having last season’s Drogba around again won’t get Chelsea very far. The bloke has proved time and again he really couldnt care less about the club or its supporters.

  7. I agree chelseadenise, it’s very rare that the longer a player stays at a club the more you grow to dislike him but that’s certainly the case with Drogba. His pathetic apology for his behaviour in the CL Final was a month too late as far as I’m concerned - he let everyone down team-mates and fans and seems content to dismiss it with a glib “that’s football” shrug. On your bike Didier!

  8. Clear off Didier clear off Frank, you,re either 100% Chelsea or you,re surplus to requirements and these 2 mercinaries fall in the second category, who the fuck do they think they are? I,ll never forgive either, I used to love both

  9. [...] disappointing for Chelsea. He redeemed himself for the following two seasons, however last season pushed even the most devoted rent boy with his lack of effort, his repeated confession he wanted to leave, as well as his antics [...]
