Chelsea Still Hopeful Over Robinho

Comparisons will always be drawn between whoever happens to be the latest man in the Chelsea hotseat and former boss Jose Mourinho and as expected, a recent Scolari interview followed this predictable line of questioning when it came to his targets for the coming season. Scolari however, wasn’t playing ball, stating only “I am Luiz Felipe Scolari, I am not Jose Mourinho and I follow my way..”
However, one target he appeared happier to talk about was Robinho. Speculation has surrounded the Brazilian’s future at Real Madrid throughout the summer, largely as a result of the Spanish club’s very public stalking of Cristiano Ronaldo, and despite reports to suggest the 24 year old will not be allowed to leave the club, Chelsea insist talks are still ongoing.
Rumour has it the Real Madrid winger’s request for a £4million a year deal was turned down in favour of £2.5million a season, rising to £3million over five years. Needless to say, rumour also has it the Brazilian wasn’t exactly bowled over by his employer’s generosity, given the lengths they’ve gone to when it comes to wooing a certain Portugeezer.
Anyway, taking full advantage of the Spanish club’s shoddy treatment of the player, Scolari took the opportunity to make clear how welcome this “great player” would be at Stamford Bridge. Kenyon added to the courtship by suggesting “We have confirmed we are interested in Robinho and have had some conversations with the club, that is ongoing and as the coach has said, he is a player we have identified as a talent.”
However, no doubt in an effort to dissuade Real from playing silly buggers over any possible agreement, Kenyon insisted it won’t be that big a deal if they decide to keep him in the Spanish Capital, stating “If we can get him he will add to the talent we’ve got. But if not, the objectives at Chelsea won’t change.”
