Scolari Clears Up Robinho Confusion

Inevitably, following Chelsea’s failure to sign Robinho – or more to the point, Real Madrid’s refusal to sell him to us – the press decided this was the latest stick to beat us with. Not a great surprise – it fills column inches and keeps the boys in the press happy, so cue stories of Scolari’s ‘fury’ at Kenyon’s inept acquisition skills (not a complete surprise to most of us anyway) and his ‘rage’ at Roman’s lack of spending in this summer’s transfer market.
However, thankfully before any of us start getting our knickers in a twist, worrying that yet another load of in-house arguments are going to be the press boys’ latest bag of bones to pick over, Scolari has kindly nipped that one in the bud for us.
Shrugging off the latest rumours, pretty much as he appears to have done with most of the reports since he’s arrived, Scolari says “I don’t think the people around Robinho were serious about him coming to Chelsea. They were more interested in the best business deal.”
As far as the player in question is concerned, the benevolent Chelsea boss states “What I’ve said before about Robinho I say again now. He’s a very good player. I only wish him the best.” Mind you, I’m sure Scolari, like the rest of us is relieved that unlike City, we didn’t risk taking the Brazilian on without a medical since it’s become apparent following his press conference that he clearly has problems with his short-term memory.
With regards to the press speculation, the Chelsea manager goes on “I have seen the newspapers and that they say I am unhappy or angry with the club. These statements are not true at all. I have not said this and I do not think this. I talk to only a few people about my team, all inside the club. Other people have been quoted in newspapers saying they know what I think or feel, but they do not know. Only my close team knows.” So there you have it, he saved all the expletives about Real Madrid for those closest to him.
Oh and for the journalist’s future reference, or in other words, the next time they’re looking for some mud to sling at the latest Chelsea boss, Scolari clears that little matter up for them as well, saying “I have a press office at Chelsea and I hold a press conference every week. I do interviews for Chelsea TV and say things for the Chelsea website. If it does not come from one of these places, it will not be true, and will not be what I think.”
Reckon that’ll work?
