Good News On Michael Essien?

When news broke of Michael Essien’s cruciate ligament injury and the surgery he required which could keep him out of the Chelsea side for anywhere between 6-8 months, it made for pretty grim reading.

However, John Obi Mikel seems to be a more than adequate replacement in Essien’s absence and it now appears likely that Mineiro’s imminent arrival will also give us emergency cover if we happen to find ourselves without Mikel for any reason.

So, we’d assume things couldn’t look any better really – but we’d assume wrongly, because following his surgery in France on Thursday, the news seemed to be that Essien would be out until mid-February. And yet, the latest reports are suggesting Essien is confident of making a slightly quicker recovery than that and could even make his comeback as early as new year.

Fingers crossed then.

  1. Justice for his tackle on Hamann in the cl all those years ago. Shocking tackle, nearly ruined a great great players career.

  2. Mikel was superb against manure united. He reduced Berbatov to a below average player and was the architect of the goal.I think Mikel has established himself in the team. When Essein gets fit,we will have more options

  3. Please!! forget Stephen Appiah. He has nothing to offer as far as im concern.Let us go for younger players instead of all these tired legs. With Appiah in our mid field,i wonder.Please…………………….

  4. Dr Justice, you are a venal, no-nothing to$$er.

  5. Essiens tackle on Hamman was justice itself for the awful tackle Hamman made on Damien Francis of Norwich in Season 2004-5 that almost ended his career. What comes around Didi eh ?

  6. Mikel has prove why scolari should not bench him for anybody. When essien is back he will give us more option.
