John Terry On Man City’s List

It makes such a refreshing change to see another club taking over the headlines where spending money is concerned – even if it is our players they’re planning to buy.

Since taking over at Manchester City, the Abu Dhabi United Group have already signed Robinho in a deal that saw their financial clout muscle out a less lucrative offer from Chelsea, and statements of intent in the press suggest they continue to browse their Panini sticker book in search of next year’s signings.

We’ve already had names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Michael Essien, Steven Gerrard, Messi, Kaka, etc bandied about by the ridiculously rich Arabs and assuming they have the pull they seem to believe they have, we’re now being informed John Terry’s name will be added to their squad next year. Because, according to recent reports the ADUG are preparing a ‘bold bid’ for the Chelsea captain and are prepared to pay him around £200,000 a week for his services.

As we all know though, John Terry has been at Chelsea for the past 13 years. He’s risen through the ranks over the years and his status at the club is now legendary, so would an increase of around £50,000 a week really persuade him to defect? I personally don’t believe it would.

What really makes me smile about this particular ‘story’ though is the realisation that if these new City owners actually knew anything about football, it’d be our best centre-back they’d be after.

  4. “if these new City owners actually knew anything about football, it’d be our best centre-back they’d be after.”

You’re assuming that there’s a single grain of truth in the story. Tut tut.

  5. Rest assured that this nonsense is just the media (and players agents) hyping stories and players of little or no value to get into the limelight.

There is no need for City to go after established players like Terry and Gerrard at the moment. First we have to win something and show that we have the ability to claim a place at the top. It’s interesting to see how Robinho gets almost all the media attention while SWP get the cheers from the fans. And I’m not saying that Robinho is not extremely popular with the fans which he is.

City have a good base of home grown players, and only need a few exceptionally good players to add to that quality. Most City fans will be content with winning a cup or something for the first couple of years. We don’t expect miracles (like the one against Portsmouth) every week. I just hope the owners understand that…..

As for Terry you’ll definitely find better full backs but his qualities as a leader and the link to the community would be hard for Chelsea to replace. Just like Dunnie would be at City.

  6. I wouldn’t worry if I were a Chelsea fan. The Story was made up by the Daily Manunited Mirror and is complete fabrication designed to wind up City and Chelsea fans. City fans aren’t interested are Chelsea? Don’t think so. And snoozepapers wonder why they are losing readership.
