Drogba: More ‘Bad Dream’ Than ‘Nightmare’

Apparently there’s a little bit of good news on Chelsea’s injury front, with the announcement that Didier Drogba’s injury isn’t quite as bad as we’d been led to believe. Despite early reports suggesting he could be out for up to three months, the latest update is that he should actually be out for ‘weeks rather than months’.

It’s a little hard to get excited to hear that having had to cope without the Ivorian for most of the season so far, we’re again faced with having to rely on the goal-shy Anelka for ‘weeks’, but I guess at least this news makes it more ‘bad dream’ than ‘nightmare’ proportions.

we have to be grateful it won’t be as long as we’d initially feared when we saw him stretchered off on Wednesday night.

Anyway, a statement on the official website yesterday informed us:

“Didier Drogba has had two forceful rotations in his knee and ankle. Fortunately, he has avoided any significant ligamentus rupture. He will not be requiring surgery. We will keep him under observation for the next two or three days before putting an estimate on how long he’ll be out, but we’re certainly looking at weeks, not months.”

No doubt Scolari, who at the minute probably hasn’t got a clue who he’s got fit to play Villa on Sunday, is breathing a sigh of relief at the news as well.

  1. The injury looked bad but it was the anti-Chelseafc Mirror newspaper that started the 3 month rumour, hoping of course that it would be a matter of months rather than weeks. Let’s hope he’s up and running as soon as possible. Sorry Mr wilson but unfortunately it doesn’t look as bad as you were hoping.

  2. I hope these initial reports are accurate. When I read about the knee injury, all I could think about was Drogba’s season is over. Is this knee injury to the same knee he had surgery on during the summer? I hope the recovery is speedy because we are going to need him in top form!
