John Terry: Should Chelsea Take The Risk?

The man upstairs must be having a laugh at Chelsea’s expense these days – particularly where injuries are concerned anyway. Because just about every tabloid article you read these days seems to be written in order to add yet another name to the ever increasing list of casualties at Stamford Bridge.

Unfortunately, yesterday’s press proved to be no exception with the news that John Terry, who’d already been reported to have played through the pain for the majority of the game against CFR Cluj on Wednesday night, has added ‘back injury’ to the sick list at Chelsea - which must read like a junior doctor’s guide to orthopaedics these days.

Although Terry had a particularly off game against Cluj and clearly struggled to keep up with the pace, reports of a possible injury were pretty much played down. However, despite the assumption that the scan he had after the game was no more than a precaution, it now appears a little more serious than that, with Chelsea’s medical staff reported to be taking a closer look at Terry’s x-rays.

In typical JT fashion, the man himself suggests he’ll take a painkilling injection in order to play against Villa on Sunday, although with Terry’s history of back injuries that might not be the most sensible option.

So, with too many of our players spending increasing periods of time out lately, wouldn’t it be better to rest Terry for one game rather than risk another long-term injury in the squad?

  1. Although this is an important game, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to end the streak. Ivanovic impressed me in the cup game and I think he can handle deputizing with Alex for one game. We need JT healthy, so take a day off, slap the captaincy on Ballack for the day and watch Chelsea win on Sunday!!!!!

  2. I would agree with that. It’s early in the season. We need to make sure we are healthy for the latter part of the year. I would hate for a minor injury to escalate to something bigger because he wants to play. Rest up and get healthy so you can be at the top of your game when it really counts.
