Battle Lines Drawn With Man City?

After a summer long battle for Robinho, who as just about everyone on the planet knows ended up signing for the club he hadn’t announced his adoration for, the links with him just refuse to go away.
This time, it’s Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari prompting the press to get carried away, by hinting he’d be open to yet another change of heart by the Brazilian. Following hot on the heels of Robinho allegedly shunning Chelsea by suggesting he wanted to be the best player in the world – whilst at City, Scolari has apparently responded by saying “I am sure that Robinho would be the best player in the world if he came to play at Chelsea. The Chelsea doors are always open to him.”
However, what Scolari wants and what Scolari might get are clearly two different things because firstly, we continue to hear about the lack of funds being made available to the Chelsea boss, so a player valued at over £32million doesn’t look to be on the cards. But maybe more importantly than that are the suggestions that the Chelsea owner would let any deals with Man City happen over his dead body.
You see, there has been the odd whisper lately of them with the dosh at City planning to lure Wayne Bridge to Middle Eastlands with the usual promise of a bigger bank balance plus the added bonus of regular first team football. Bridge signed a four year contract with Chelsea in the summer putting him on something like £85,000 a week, whilst the Arabs are reportedly happy to pay closer to £120,000 if he fancies it in January. But they obviously hadn’t thought about the strength of feeling they’d created when pinching a player Chelsea had spent month upon month in negotiations over.
So, with Abramovich still reported to be foaming at the mouth over the deadline day loss of a player he’d coveted since Mourinho was at the club, he’s rumoured to have suggested that even the ridiculously rich Abu Dhabi Group don’t have enough money in the bank to persuade him to do business with them.

Chelsea News 24/7

Why are you chelsea sites still writing about robinho get over it you lost out to a much richer club for a change, i dont get why your so bothered undoubtebly robinho has potential to be the best in the world but why are you so hung up on him you get to watch lampard, drogba, essien, deco, j cole and so on each week and you cant stop going on about robinho i doubt you will sign him from us you could not out bid us at 34 million it is going to take at least 60 million to even make us bother listening and even then it will be laughed at i would think, so please get over it and as for not doing business with us that is fine by me if chelsea were willing to sell that means they aint good enough for you so they aint good enough for us.
Chelsea haven’t got a cat in hell’s chance of signing Robinho, so forget it. City could buy and sell Chelsea a hundred times over if they wanted to – Robinho will be the best player in the world, playing for Manchester City who will become the best football club in the world in the not too distant future. Robinho to Chelsea would be a step backwards for him now. He saw the potential at Man City and jumped at it (full stop).
I think in future it’ll be Manchester City Football Club who’ll be deciding who they do business with and not the other way around. In comparison to the new City owners, Abramovich is the equivalent to a ‘rag and bone man’, and everyone, even little roman has his price.
Not that i’d like bridge at City. He may be an improvement on Garrido, but not massively, and he is not blessed with the kind of pace top full-backs these days need to possess. No we’d much prefer Taiwo or Abidal, not a player who SWP used to beat at will every time he faced him until he joined him at Chelski.
The kind of contract Robinho is on being the most expensive British transfer ever and most highly paid would mean Chelski would probably need to stump up in the region of 50million to buy him from City – not that this will ever happen.
People may laugh and write Manchester City off now, but I suspect those in the ‘know’ must realise that a club who at a conservative estimate are 25 times richer than Chelsea and who already have huge support are going to be a superpower, the like of which has never been witnessed in English football before. There must be those within the corridors of power at the “big” 4 clubs sitting very uncomfortably and nervously awaiting with a sense of foreboding the awakening from its 30 year coma, the sleeping giant that is Manchester City Football Club.
Get used to the new world order boys…this is just the tip of the iceberg
gaga – Ever heard of a period? How about a run-on? Reading your comment made my eyes bleed. The article was written about Robinho, because of Scolari’s comments. You should probably read the article before you make barely legible comments.
Mr Bluesky – Robinho may well become the best player in the world, but Man City won’t be the best football club in the world any time soon. In the near future, Man City may have the highest payroll, but that doesn’t mean much. How would moving to Chelsea be a step backwards? He’d be around better players with a better manager. The only thing he saw at City was more money. If he was serious about winning trophies, he’d have come to Chelsea.
As tales of revenge go, this is a pretty poor one. ‘I will show them! We will not let them have our second choice left back! They will learn not to cross me!’ Hardly making City pay is it? Barely even merits a shrug of the shoulders and an ‘oh well’ to be honest. And give up on the Robinho pipe dream – it’s never going to happen.
Get over it Chelski, you’ve no chance. Why would Robinho want to go to a club with no money? He is ambitious and can recognise that Chelsea’s days are numbered, what with Abramovich down to his last few billion. As to not selling us players no matter how much money we offer, well that’s certainly going to help the business plan to break even in a few years!
LMAO!!!
In terms of glamour, history, and prestige among the London clubs your little club has always ranked behind The Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur and always will do.
Abramovich will eventually get fed up, especially now that he is financially out-muscled. What is Kenyon ‘s target to make Chelsea financially self-sustaining, just remind me, was it year 2010!
Get over it.
Credit Crunch, what credit crunch.

The Truth – I hate to drop this little bombshell on you but money does not automatically guarantee success. Sure Chelsea won back-to-back titles but it took a bit more than money and we haven’t won a title since. So whilst Abramovich’s money allowed us to compete on a more equal footing financially, his money (which at the time was regarded as a considerable amount in the PL) didn’t turn us into a superpower – despite the fact Chelsea were already a top four club pre-money, unlike City.
Mr Bluesky – ‘City the best club in the world in the not too distant future’, ha ha priceless.
The ‘New City’ really allows me to appreciate exactly why Chelsea were so widely despised following Abramovich’s arrival although thankfully I can say with hand on heart I never developed the laughably arrogant attitude that seems to go hand in hand with these benefactor’s newfound disciples.
Spektral im guessing if you even get to stamford bridge you sit in the posh section spending time worrying about full stops (period sounds american suprised i am not, how you like your new president) as for my comment i did read the article an article which has been getting published since robinho joined city just from different sources. I love the way you seem to have taken my comment personal even though i never disrespected chelsea in anyway. As for chelsea d saying money doesnt buy success granted you were around the top four pre money but your money bought your success 100% you were no where near a team capable of winning titles in the manner you have since spending money so why you are trying to justify that spending money isnt behind your success is beyond me. p.s. i am one that has never despised chelseas wealth nor am i a new disciple as you seem to be implying in your reply to mr bluesky.
gaga – if you’d read what I’d actually said it was that firstly money does not guarantee success. Nowhere did I say Chelsea hadnt got some short-term success from it. But what I did say was that his money did not turn us into a ‘superpower’ – fact.
Spektral ….. intrigued as to how Robinho could have chosen Chelsea when you failed to have a bid accepted for him?
Get over it and enjoy his goals in an albeit lighter shade of blue.
Firstly i think the robinho rumours could do with stopping, our owners aren’t silly, they want to be the biggest club in the world they know not to sell one of the most talented in the game today. however i think its a fools game to suggest chelsea would be a step back from city right now, as a city fan its still easy to see that chelsea’s squad right now is stronger than any in the league and the title is certain stamford bridge bound this year.
We have alot of potential at city right now and we need to capitalise because it will only be a matter of time before more multi billionaire’s come in to take other clubs to that next financial level. it does tickle me how everyone says money cannot buy success and if success was to arrive at eastlands then all we would here is “you bought your success”.. money plays a huge part in success and is the main driving force behind most good within a club. okay money doesnt bring youngsters through the academy, but it holds onto those players and provides the financial clout the youth system needs. so it is a high possibility that success is close, even if thats breaking up the top 4.
Once that is achieved then we are another step forward and more superstars could be on the horizon. The future is looking good for the blue side of manchester, atleast it wont be boring being the only invincible financial backing for you guys now, right?
Man City have taken so much stick since our new found wealth arrives, it’s obvious how nervous opposition fans have become. I’ve used the word JEALOUSY over and over again this past couple of months. What amuses me more than anything; is hearing Chelsea fans having the ‘Brass Neck’ to say money does not buy you sucess. Chelsea would probably be back in the old division two if they didn’t have Romans money behind them (they spent years & years there not that long ago – forgotten already) ?
I’m not full of bull like a lot of other fans, I say what I see. Chelsea are the best team I have seen at City this season by a mile and I think you will go on to win the Premiership easily this time around. City will buy the very best quality players from now on and if ‘Bluesey’ cannot blend the team to be champions then someone else will be brought in… personally I think Hughes should be given time & every chance. If Roman pulls the plug or restricts his backing at Chelsea I can’t see Scholari hanging around. Maybe Scholari & Robinho will be together one day (but not at Chelsea) !!
Well before Abramovich you had won less major trophies than Manchester City…and there are only 5 clubs who have spent more years in the top flight of english football than City – Chelsea are certainly not one of them. Despite 32 years since we won our last trophy, 27 years since our last semi-final and final we regularly attract crowds of over 45,000 and were getting bigger crowds than half the Premier League in 1999 when we were in the third tier of english football. Chelsea have been the more successful or ‘bigger’ club for the last 10 years or so whilst we have endured reduced circumstances, but we now have the opportunity to return to the summit of english football where we were at in the 1960s and 1970s and early 1980s.
It’ll take 2, 3 or maybe 4 seasons but rest assured the blue army are coming. Money doesn’t necessarily guarantee success but it helps a great deal which is highlighted when you can offer to fail miserably in the transfer market but still succeed as Parker, Sidwell, Wright-Phillips (23m) just to name 3 big money transfer failures at Chelsea and Veron(30m), Kleberson, Forlan at the rags. When Abramovich came in the top 4 was not properly set in stone as it as seemingly been since with Newcastle, Leeds, Blackburn, Everton all challenging them in the 8 years previous. Abramovich’s money cast any challengers as ‘also rans’ by buying their best players, i.e. Duff, Wright-Phillips etc etc.
ok chelsea d fair point i was a little brash, but same time you did swerve chelseas short term success being because of money by bringing into things like u were top four pre money kinda hiding behind that i felt.
latest score Chelsea £500million ManCity £303 BILLION. The times they are a changing
)
I wish my fellow City supporters would learn a bit of humilty. We haven’t done anything yet and haven’t for years. As much as we might loathe it we need to learn from the Chelsea and dare I say Yoonited blueprints for success.
It would be a good idea to win some silverware and earn the right to be condescending first.
At this rate we’ll become less popular tham Millwall
MCFC Brisbane – Spot on comment. I’ve no doubt at all when Abramovich arrived there were a fair few cocky Chelsea supporters spouting the same sort of stuff. However, five years down the line, we might have won a couple of titles but the big prize still eludes us and United remain the biggest club in the country. Your fellow supporters really should take note.
Top & Bottom of this… Fiancially, Manchester City Football Club are the most powerful club in the world by far. They will buy the very very best quality and I cannot see anyone being able to compete with us. Chelsea are rich club – Man City are a mega, mega rich club.
If I could choose our top three or four competitors then I hope Chelsea will still be there. I see Manchester Utd slipping away once Fergie leaves in two years time, they also have crippling debts which’ll take years to clear along with their cling-on fans. I hope Aresnal disappear from the top 4 scene because Wenger has done nothing but slag City off ever since our takeover. I do like Liverpool because they have character and always have had (however, have a couple of bums running their club). Villa or eventually Newcastle (once they sort themselves out) could be my 4th/5th teams (genuine fans, unlike M.U.). My prediction for the Prem League for 11/12 season (3 years from now) will be 1. Man City 2. Chelsea 3. Liverpool 4. Villa 5. Man Utd. 6. Newcastle 7. Arsenal 8. QPR 9. Everton 10. Spurs.
Lets not get into a slagging match… Chelsea, please go and win the Premier League this season. I hate M.U. and their smug so called ‘band wagon’ fans and there’s nothing more I’d like than seeing you wipe the smile off their faces.
… Just sell us Terry in January ??
big talk from the Citeh fan there, wot u won lately then?
mcfc brisbane i think we have shown humilty we are all just sayin chelsea websites and chelsea should forget about the robinho story whats the point in it, so if there is a few city fans getting a little cocky telling chelsea they have no chance of getting robinho whats wrong with that surely it is true. my comments on here were not designed to be a chelsea versus city debate they were aimed at the same old story going through the mill everyday and finally i have entered a debate about it. As for chelsea d im sure you got the effect you wanted off the story and although i hate what its about i have to say i do like a good old debate now and again good job. – please spend some time to go to stamford bridge chelsea fans and make you tell someone to make sure anelka doesnt wear pink boots in cl game as i hear he is going too. i thought bendtner was a disgrace when he walked on the pitch in pink boots on saturday what message does that send out.
MCFC Brisbane – yes but people have a short memory and no appreciation of the history of football. Why should we be patronised and cower to the likes of Chelsea. We have a very proud and colourful history of our own that we should cherish and not forget. We’ve always had huge support but after years and years of mismanagement we lost our way badly at the turn of the 1980s and went from one of the top 3/4 clubs in the country to our nadir of third division football in 1998/1999.
I too hope Chelsea win the league.
Goodnight guys… sweet dreams !!
I cant see how Chelsea can complain about us gazzumping them for Robinho, didnt they do the same to us with Anelka?
psI hope Chelsea win the title this year, Scolari has turned them into a nice team to watch, easliy the best sidr to come to Eastlands.
gaga – Congrats on the run-ons, they gave me a headache. Regarding our President-Elect (not President until January 20th), I’m not sure what you are getting at. Are you saying American’s made the wrong choice?
I cannot understand the argument behind a club’s history. The only supporters that start screaming history are the supporters of clubs that are not doing so well right now.
As for City buying all the great players; what about all the great players that won’t play for City regardless of how much money is offered?
We are very lucky that we already have the best and most productive academy in England, the current FA Youth Cup holders and 2 finals in 3 years. There are at least 5 or 6 of these graduates who are good enough to prosper with a better squad. Already Richards, Johnson, Ireland and Sturridge, have proven themselves at Premier League level as well as Onuoha, Etuhu and Schmeichel. Wright-Phillips also came through at City obviously. From this year’s cup winning team we have Weiss, Mee , Trippier who look like brilliant prospects. The academy will be now be provided with better facilities and funds and so the conveyor belt will hopefully continue under the stewardship of the legend Jim Cassell.
The academy won’t provide all our players but it’s important that a core of 4 or 5 players in the team have a real empathy with the club, its roots and fans.
Spektral – We don’t necessarily have to buy players from the top 4 in England and the club’s on the continent are unlikely to hold any grudges if Manchester City come knocking with a bigger bid. Chelsea bought Drogba from Marseille not from another top 4 club; likewise Essien and Malouda from Lyon; Lampard and Joe Cole were bought from West Ham; Cech from Rennes; Carvalho from Porto; John Obi Mikel from some football wilderness. Not many of those teams would be able to resist if we came in for one of their players, and I’m sure they’d relish the chance to play in the Premier League. Want we can do is buy from the best of the rest in the Premier League like Chelsea and rags have done and then we can target those in europe/worldwide who are the latest young, talented and hungry players.
no spektral i wasnt getting at your choice of president i was getting at the fact your an american not only not from london but not from country that gives me the impression you are a glory hunter i mean how valid are your comments how many times do you get here to watch them. I go to every city game and consider myself a big fan because of that i will travel the lengths of the world to watch games that are not important but you sit in america and claim to be a fan what was it that drew you to chelsea as a young boy frowing up in london, oops forgot your american, not only that but you made a comment on my grammar on a internet comment page thats pathetic. Basicallt i have no time for plastic fans as your self and your comment is void to me.
yes i made mistakes spektral should of said from the country and spelling mistake on basically and growing butlate here in england where i am where myclub is from i know you were desperate to tell me
Lets not get into my wads bigger than your wad nonsense only United fans seem to love. After all their debt is as big as a small countries GDP. Robinho no doubt was influenced by mnoey in joining City but there is more to him than that. Rel were messing him about by suing Ronalo and lets be honest Chelsea were hardly quick in wanting to sign him. Somebody (Kenyon no doubt) screed up big time there and in leaving it until the last possible moment was hardly telling him how much you wanted to sign him. He’s got his club. He’s happy and most City fans are not too fussed bout Bridge so Ambramovich is going to have to plug the financial gap in some other way. Last I heard he is losing money big style so maybe he will want to get rid of his new toy. If its not going to be City this year (I think you can sleep easy on that one Chelsea fans) lets hope Chelsea make sure the evil glory hunters don’t nick it again. We will be doing our best to take our usual six points off them on Sunday.
oh my lord,
my wife is threatening me that our marriage is going to be tested to the full now that we are going to be on the back pages and the next three pages inside, plus on the cover of every glossy football mag going tv shows, mentioned in news bulletins, mentioned in games by andy grey that we are not even playing in, the commentaters will talk in a higher more excited vioce every time we touch the ball, and say that we had a bad day at the office if we ever get beat, or that the refferee had an auful game, just like manure have had the hype and glory hunters on their side for years.
move over boys and come and buy your new and improved blue shirt.
cant wait to see what sant brings this christmas.
First off i have to say that i may be a Yankee but if i could be, i WOULD be at every City game. (on the poorer side here) I do watch or read about them loyaly and should also mention that, sadly, i come from a family of Utd fans but have loved city since the 90′s when i started watching EPL. Guess i’m the only true man in the fam eh?
Gaga let me help you out a little here so that spektral understands the importance of money by using some American sports. It’ll put things into light for him. Oh and coming onto a sports blog to make comments on grammar? What is that madness?
NHL : Quebec Nordiques were bought out and moved to where? Colorado. With their newly aquired money they were able to buy such players as Patrick Roy and Claude Lemuix (MVP of the NHL that year) just to name a coulple. They went on to when the Stanley Cup the first year and become a powerhouse there after.
MLB: Yankees….need i say more?
NBA: Celtics, after years and years of falling off the charts gather money and collect players like Pierce and Garnett. Champions and a top team again.
Do I really need to go on? So yes spektral…money DOES equal success. As others have already said, you, a Chealsea “fan”, should know that.
Obviously we’re not going to take League this year. I just hope we all stomp MU and put them, along with their front runner fans and my brothers, in thier place! But i agree with many of my fellow Blue fans here…as i predicted myself with Colorado in the NHL, Angels in MLB, and yes even Columbus in our sad but trying MLS…it won’t happen this year…maybe not even next…but soon, VERY SOON, City won’t just be talked about for the money they have. But more for the players they have, the goals they score, the games they play, and the victories they accumulate. City WILL be the champions.

Blue Moon rising. Get over it. CTID.
nice summary loyal mcfc
Big talk, win something then I might begin to take you seriously.
