Man City Owners Working Their Way Through Chelsea?

Funny thing really, when there were whispers around Man City possibly putting in a bid for Wayne Bridge in January, I wondered why it was him and not Ashley Cole.
I mean, rumour has it Hughes has earmarked what he considers to be the best players in the world in each position, and Cole’s got the edge over his semi-retired stand-in surely (in terms of football, not personality obviously)? Mind you, he’s apparently picked John Terry over Ricardo Carvalho as well so I shouldn’t have been too surprised really.
Still, I suppose where the press are concerned it was only a matter of time, so yesterday we did indeed read all about City’s billionaire owners’ plans to put in a £20million bid for Cole in January.
Cole has only 2 ½ years left on a contract that pays him £82,000 a week in comparison to the sort of incomes some of his team-mates earn and no doubt fully aware of the sort of integrity he showed in making the switch from Arsenal to Chelsea, the Arabs are hoping the offer of £130,000 a week will see him hot-foot it over to Eastlands. And with the left-back in a position to ‘buy out’ his contract and move for nothing next summer anyway, this clearly doesn’t put Chelsea in a very comfortable position.

Chelsea had their day, now it’s ours.
I suppose all we have to say to Chelsea is we hope you win the league and the Champs league this year. Don’t let the reds get it again.
Chelsea will still in in and around there at the top for a lot of years I am sure but will soon be two teams in Manchester that will complete at the moment at least financially.
As far as City are concerned, yes perhaps we have been the brunt of many a United loving jounalists jokes for a considerable time and I’m sure many more to come but they won’t be able to stop this rollercoaster.
Chelsea too will have to concede financially otherwise you will become too stretched like many of the other teams in the premiership financially.
I think Ibramovich if the tosh written in the papers about Cit’s new player wishlists do actually turn out to be true then Ibramovich should thank his lucky stars that he will be able to get some of his money back from the Abu Dhabi City group before he eventually bails out.
I must say he seems to be loosing interest at the moment.
But never the less good luck for this year Chelsea!
Sorry Mr Bluesky, but it will be a few years before it’s your day.
Where do you get the idea that Abramovich is losing interest? Is it because he isn’t willing to spend as much money on transfers? He’s been hurt by the world economy as well, just like everyone else.
I think you have answered your own question as to the imediate future for Chelski.
The fact that the credit crunch is hitting and is likely to deapen means that perhaps financially Ibramovich will refuse to cough up for players.
He is obviously tieing up purse strings; The shambolic way in which they tried to coax Robinho to come there illustrates that fact. Still they are in a much better state that 95% of the rest of the premier league teams barring City that is.
There is only one team in the world probably now that has the money to stump up and it may be to our benefit that the credit crunch has hit at this time to the lost unfortunatley of the top 4 perhaps and those that have the odd quality player.
It’s no secret a lot of clubs are affected financially even the great money train ManU have been affected by debts recently and Liverpool is also affected. Arsenal by the looks of are undergoing a rebuild process. I think that’s just a way of saying “no we won’t be buying any players right now, actually we will be selling them”
It’s just nice for once in our history to be on the other side of the fence to everyone else. We should start improving and with Hughes at the helm we should be able to manage high quality players when they decide it is is there interests to come to City.
It’s a long road and I stil stick by my statement “I hope Chelsea win the league and champs league this season” over united any day.
Personally I was at the match at Eastlands against you guys and you were just sheer class throughout. It was only the individual brilliant of Ronbinho on that day that got us our goal. If we can pinch a player or two of your in the credit crunch window then I won’t be upset.
Good luck!
City till I die
