No Change For Scolari

Looks as if Scolari will start with the usual one up front against Everton tonight, with the Chelsea boss suggesting 4-4-2 hasn’t worked that well in training. The Brazilian says “It has been good sometimes but not good at other times.  It’s 50-50. But this period has been better for the group. They are trying more than before to understand what positions I want them to be in. It has improved and evolved more in the last 15 days. They know more now. They have more confidence than before if they change (the formation) during the game.”

He just doesn’t seem to think there’s any benefit to playing two men up front, suggesting “Sometimes you put five players up front but the ball does not arrive there.” Mind you, irrespective of what formation he goes for, Scolari is happy to carry the can, insisting “If they make mistakes, it’s my mistake because I give the orders.  It’s the same with left backs and right backs when they go forward, try to dribble and try to shoot.”

So, it’s likely he’ll go for his preferred 4-5-1 tonight, and with Drogba failing to score in the league so far this season, it’s a fair bet Anelka will start.

Let’s just hope our away form holds out.

  1. Did anyone else witness Anelka’s shoulder’s drop against West Ham once Didier came onto the field? He needs to grow some backbone fast in order to fulfill his ambition at the top level. Whenever we’ve deployed 442 in recent seasons it seems to work in spurts but not consistently ebough and we seem to end up too narrow playing 4 central players who won’t stay wide.

  2. Scolari really needs to leave chelsea as soon as possible

  3. This just irks me more and more. I’ve really enjoyed Scolari so far as manager, but he needs to get his head out of his butt when it comes to his striker formation. Drogba’s power is needed on the pitch to create space, plain and simple.
