Michael Essien has been out injured for us since September and there’s no doubt about it, he’s been a huge miss for us this season.

Still, despite the fact that there isn’t anyone at Chelsea who hasn’t got their fingers crossed that he makes a return next month, it hasn’t stopped the Italian press from speculating about us selling the midfielder soon after. You see, according to reports in Il Corriere Dello Sport, Fiorentina director Pantaleo Corvino has added Essien’s name to the summer transfer list he’s putting together.

The fact that Essien was given a better deal in the summer because Chelsea clearly don’t want him going anywhere doesn’t matter apparently, because we’re told Corvino is pretty good when it comes to getting his man and with the credit crunch seeming to hit Chelsea where it hurts, Fiorentina won’t be shy when it comes to flashing the cash.

They can flash whatever they like because Essien’s one player I can’t see going anywhere.
