Autographs, Digs At Wenger & Abramovich’s Interest: All In A Day’s Work At Chelsea

Chelsea’s open training session on Tuesday seems to have gone down pretty well and Juliano Belletti for one, would like to see it happen more often.

Belletti says “At Barcelona, every training session was open to the fans, so there was good contact between the players and fans. I would like to do this more times at Chelsea, and the fans would like to see us more, see us train and sign autographs like today.  I think it is a good idea and I hope we can do it again more times.” And to be honest, I think he’s got a point. It wouldn’t do our players any harm to get down off their pedestals and remember what it’s all about.

The PA announcer certainly seemed to be enjoying it as much as the 6,000 fans attending, taking the time to inform the watching crowd “Arsene Wenger is planting potatoes in the Emirates’ goalmouth so he’ll have something to lift come May.” A touch of ‘glass houses’ maybe, but still funny.

But probably the best thing about the day was the presence of the Chelsea owner, who seems to have had a renewed interest in us of late. Because not only was Roman Abramovich at the training session but he also accompanied Hiddink to both the Watford game last weekend and our reserves 6-0 win over Portsmouth on Monday night.

Ready to sell us? I don’t think so.
