Coventry City 0-2 CHELSEA: Wembley It Is!

COVENTRY 0-2 CHELSEA
Ok, ok, so United got a 4-0 against Fulham as they continue their march towards world domination this season but at least we got ourselves in the semi-finals before they did! J
Not only that but Guus Hiddink definitely seems to have stopped the slide having come in at a time when we’d looked as if we were heading for total collapse under Scolari. Five wins out of five – and a much more comfortable win this time against pretty average championship opposition in Coventry City.
Because, whilst you never really know which way these cup games are going to go against the lower division clubs – this time last year being a prime example – Coventry never at any point looked as if an upset was on the cards this time round.
We completely dominated the game, with Didier Drogba, who proved to be a right pain in the arse for the opposing defence all day, put us a goal up in the 15th minute. His determination and strength in what was arguably a man-of-the-match performance (ouch) was just too much for Coventry to handle and even with all the work still to do after he’d won the ball and looked to have taken it too wide of the keeper, his finish was nothing short of superb.
Alex made it 2-0 in the second half after sprinting down the field to get on the end of a lovely Quaresma cross and side-foot it into the back of the net. A really nice move and all credit to Quaresma who, for me, has done a really good with whatever chances he’s been given so far and provides the sort of service we’ve been crying out for.
So what else stood out from the game then? Well, Ashley Cole had to ride-out plenty of stick after his antics earlier in the week. And Michael Essien made his long awaited return from injury around 65 minutes. Are things looking up at Stamford Bridge then? Second in the league and in the FA Cup semi’s – it’s looking a lot healthier than it was!

Huge to get a win, and to see Essien back in a blue shirt.
Fair enough we have a deep and expensive squad, but any team in the world would miss Essien, who for my mind is our best and most important player.
When you consider that we have played almost the whole season with Mikel instead of him, you begin to understand how much he’s been missed (no offence to Mikel he’s just nowhere near as good).
Lets push on and win all our remaining games, and see where that takes us.
