Hiddink Cautious Over Essien

Michael Essien made his long-awaited return to the first team in our 2-0 win against Coventry on Saturday. The Ghanaian midfielder came on for Mikel for the last 25 minutes and obviously, we’d all love to see him play against Juventus on Tuesday night as well.

His team mates were no less delighted to see him return at the weekend, with Didier Drogba stating “We’ve missed him a lot and we’re happy that he’s back”, before trying to hand his MOTM champagne to Essien, who’d already legged it from the post-match interview.

However, whilst Essien suggests “It’s good to be back. I’ve missed football and I’m looking forward to the games ahead”, Guus Hiddink is cautious when it comes to pushing the ‘Bison’ too hard so soon after a six month lay-off. The current Chelsea boss says “Michael did a very good job after his very heavy injury.  He is fit, but there is a difference to be game fit. I have time to think if we start with him (on Tuesday) and see how he reacts.”

Great to have the choice again though eh?
