Ok, so John Terry should know better and Ashley Cole……well, he’ll always be Ashley Cole unfortunately, but all this talk about the pair of them being kicked out in the summer after a night out went a bit tits-up is a little over the top surely?

Yeh, I know it’s not the first time either Terry or Cole’s discipline has been called into question – and yet again John Terry’s England captaincy could be the price he pays when he faces Fabio Capello, but his Chelsea captaincy and more to the point his Chelsea career? I can’t see it somehow. Not that I haven’t considered the idea of John Terry departing before, in some ways it could even make sense, it’s just that I can’t see Abramovich agreeing to let the pair of them go as a punitive measure.

Mind you, we all know how much Roman wants Guus Hiddink to stay on beyond the end of the season and according to one of our temporary boss’ mates, having already torn a strip off the pair of them for the ‘appalling example’ they set last week, Hiddink could go as far as letting them both go at the end of the season.

The ‘friend’ says “Guus just can’t understand what on earth they thought they were doing out late at night ahead of two crucial games in the FA Cup and the Champions League.  He’s never had this sort of booze culture problem wherever he’s worked in the world and he just won’t tolerate it now because it’s England.”

Hiddink is obviously very disappointed in them, having already admitted “I am surprised I have to lecture two players like them.” So it would seem it’s not just Hiddink’s future at Chelsea that’s uncertain right now.

Edit: Then again, bearing in mind there was a sentence hidden away in the press stating “Mirror.co.uk would like to apologise to John Terry for wrongly suggesting in a headline that Guus Hiddink had blamed him for Chelsea team-mate Ashley Cole’s arrest”, maybe all of these stories should be taken with the usual pinch of salt?
