Chelsea Keeping An Eye On Young Centre-Back?

Reports from Italy seem to be linking us with Simon Kjaer. The 19 year old centre-back was rated pretty highly even before he signed for Palermo and after an impressive season for them is now regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Europe. So, it’s hardly surprising his name is being linked to various clubs around Europe, with ours and Liverpool said to be amongst them.

Mind you, despite our names being bandied about, Kjaer’s agent Mikkel Beck, wouldn’t confirm the rumours, stating “I cannot talk about specific clubs, but it is natural that the top clubs in Europe are following Simon – he has been outstanding this season.  I have to comment all the time on Simon, but that is purely down to how he is doing.  We don’t know what is going to happen, he is very happy at Palermo and could easily stay put.  A move is not on his mind at all, he is getting on with playing and that is how it should be.”

Kjaer signed a five year deal with Palermo in the summer although could leave the Sicilian club after just 12 months, with Beck suggesting “There is a clause in his contract.  It will allow him to move during a set period in the summer.”

  1. If we are able to sign this youngster along with Zhirkov and a young striking prospect, and manage to keep Hiddink, I like our chances next season. Especially with Essien and Joe Cole coming in fully healthy (unless they get injured with qualifiers).
