Chelsea Summer Sale?

So, a summer clearout is on the cards? Long overdue if you ask me. But who’ll be on the hit-list at the end of the season?

Well, there’s probably a couple of obvious names, like Branislav Ivanovic who’s had his share of speculation this season anyway. Likewise the hapless Florent Malouda who, despite his woeful performances for us has attracted interest. And Kalou as we know, ‘dreams’ of playing for some little North London schoolboy side.

And what about our golden oldies? Well, there’s a few of them who could definitely be for the elbow if what we’re reading is true. Because, according to another one of them ‘sources close to Abramovich’, our Russian owner has decided it’s time for a bit of revamping. The source says “This looks like being the third year in a row Chelsea have failed to win the title and that’s not good enough.  Roman believes it is time to revitalise the squad so there’ll be quite a few of the thirty- somethings sold and the money used on younger stars with the skills to make a difference.”

It probably goes without saying that Frank Lampard isn’t amongst those ‘thirty-somethings’ and rightly so given the contribution he’s made again this season but what about the rest? You’d have to say Hilario at 33 and not exactly the most reliable second keeper could be on his way and Paulo Ferreira shouldn’t be far behind him, bearing in mind he’ll have been out of the squad long enough for us to forget he exists by the summer anyway.

Personally I’d hang on to Juliano Belletti though. Yes, I know he’s 32, he’s not exactly a regular and I’ve heard plenty of Blues suggest he should go but I’m going to disagree. How many clubs have players like Belletti who can be out of the side for weeks, get brought on to cover for injuries all over the place and still be as solid as he’s shown he can be? He’s a sound utility player with a bit of a cult status at Stamford Bridge thanks to the odd screamer here and more than that, he’s a grafter and you can never have too many of them.

Michael Ballack’s looking a bit iffy unless he fancies being paid only what he’s worth next season and Didier Drogba must be skating on thin ice after yet another season surrounded in controversy. As for Deco, as I’ve already said, £8million for one month’s football probably won’t convince anyone inside Stamford Bridge he’s worth any further investment now Scolari’s out of the picture.

So who do we bring in to replace that little lot then?

  1. The most important signing of the summer is going to be Hiddink’s. I hope we can sign him to a permanent contract.

I agree with you about Belletti. He always seems to do well coming off the bench. I can see Ballack going and I think Deco’s departure is a given. I can’t decide whether or not Drogba will go. I think he has a good chance of staying if Hiddink comes back.

  2. Hey Spektral – good to see you back. Totally agree with you about Hiddink. I know he’s only been with us a short time but given the difference he’s made already – even with someone else’s team, is really impressive.

We were in complete disarray before he took over, with too much speculation in the press about in-house discontent, unfit, unhappy and under-performing players, not to mention looking dodgy for next year’s CL. To put us in a position where we’ve progressed in the CL and clawed ourselves back up to 2nd in the table whilst still in the FA Cup is a lot more than I’d have expected this season.

I’m reluctant to get my hopes up of him staying but you’re dead right, his really would be the most significant signature we could get.

  3. your a pretty good writer ….. you blog kinda reminds me of http://www.arseneknowsbest.wordpress.com … the creator of that site writes like you …. :D … do visit that blog ….. its quite …. and do visit my blog too …. http://www.chelseazone.wordpress.com.

  4. I guess we should kick out Malouda, Deco, Hilario, Ferriera, Minearo, Pizzaro, Shevchenko (sadly he’s still our player) and Alex.

Ballack should probably stay but with much lower salary contract. we should let Kalou stay for one more year. We should try & integrate Di Santo, Stoch, Mancienne, Kakuta in first team.

As for new players, We should get Yuri Zhirkov, Ricardo Queresma, good 2nd choice GK, Another left footed player who can play LB or left winger(Marcelo from Real Madrid), young midfielder(who can learn from lamps) and a good player who can play just off striker or as a striker.

I guess we can take part in Real Madrid summer sale & pickup a few (May be Sneider, Marcelo/Drenthe).

  5. Isn’t Drenthe out of favour at Real anyway Darshan?

Good spot btw, I completely forgot about Pizarro and Mineiro (where did he disappear to anyway?) Is Sheva still ours? That deal was never really all that clear but didn’t I read somewhere recently Milan were letting him go to Sampdoria? How could they if he isn’t theirs?

I agree with a lot of your comment. Quaresma and Zhirkov would be good signings and we should definitely be playing Di Santo, Stoch, Mancienne and Kakuta a lot more regularly than we have done this season. Good shout.

  6. Drenthe is totally out of favor at Real. He’s so humiliated by Real crowd that he refused to sit on bench in home matches. May be he should get a “lesson of shamelessness” from Malouda & Deco :) But he’s got loads of pace & he’s young. So could be a good choice if comes cheap.

Sheva is still ours. Saw it in “LOAN INTEREST ” article on chelsea official website. Don’t think club likes him so much to track his progress after selling him :) Here’s the link.

  7. I’m really looking forward to our summer clearout, its been overdue.

Out: Hilario, Ferreria, Ivanovic, Minero, Ballack, Deco, Malouda, Kalou, Drogba, Anelka, Sheva (if he still belongs to us) and Pizzaro

In: Zhirkov, Akinfeev, Dzagoev, Quaresma, Luis Fabiano and Sergio Augero

In ideal world this how I would like our squad to look on September 1st. (Players may be listed more than once if they can play multiple positions in either 442 or 443.)

    GK: Cech, Akinfeev

    DR: Bosingwa, Belleti, Manncienne

    DL: A.Cole, Bertrand, Zhirkov

    DC: Terry, Carvalho, Alex, Manncienne

    DM: Mikel, Essien, Belleti

    MC: Mikel, Essien, Lampard, Dzagoev

    AM: Lampard, Dzagoev, Augero

    WF: J.Cole, Zhirkov, Quaresma, Stoch/Sinclair

    CF: Fabiano, Augero, Di Santo

Suppose I can keep on dreaming, eh?

  8. Yeh dream on Stevie, lol.

Thanks for that Darshan, clears up that one.

  9. Belleti, Minero, Ballack, Deco, Malouda, Kalou, Drogba, Anelka, Hilario, Ferreria they should leave they have n’t qualty for next season that’s my advice we need (david villa,Augero,Zhirkov,Quaresma,Luis Fabiano and diago from wd brem,) Ivanovic, should stay becouse he can play every whr

  10. Darshan, how could you want to get rid of Alex? The guy has been a rock since missing that header that let Torres in when we played Liverpool. I agree with letting go of all the other players though. I’d say the only player we desperately need to bring in is Zhirkov once Malouda leaves, and possibly get Quaresma to stay we really need some width.

I’ve seen Drenthe play a couple of games for Madrid before he broke down and I kind of liked what I saw apart from him missing a few chances that could of put Madrid ahead. He’s pretty damn fast and under the right management could really excel. Wouldn’t be a bad replacement for Ferreria when he leaves since he usually plays LB when brought on anyway.

  11. Yea.. Alex should stay !! Though Ivanovic would want out, I hd prefer he stays as we all know riccy carvalho wud be 32 by next yr end and we wud need a replacement by then.. so if we acn persuade him to stay 1 more yr (selfish me :P ) dat wud be gr8 !!
Bally on a pay as u play contract wud be fine.. i wd more rather gv him a player/coach contract.. he mite be tempted by dat..
Outs: Deco, Miniero, Paulo, Hilario, Malouda, Pizzaro, Sheva, Drogba (Undecided)
Ins: Quaresma (Undecided), Gourcuff, Zhirkov (2 in 1 player), Joe Hart (Though unlikely), Silva or Villa (Again, unlikely)
Belleti to stay is a must.. He has been excellent this season.
Drenthe wud be another Falouda.. he just cant shoot !! And i dont think we should go for Fabiano as well.. He ll be 29 nxt yr.. Wat we need is some fresh legs nt another late 20s star !! Ribery or Tiger frm bayern wud be gr8 though :)

  12. - Ballack has a year left on his contract. If they were to sell him, he’d get little to no money back
    - Pizarro, Shevchenko – crap players they have loaned out and will get next to no money pack for selling
    - Mineiero – I think they only signed him to a one-year deal

According to management, they will sell 3-6 players. The above will get them minimal money, if I were to move people who can get them cash I’d move:
    - Malouda…seems to be a foregone conclusion, so why not?
    - Mikel – has performed well to date this year. Essien is fit again and a much better player in that role. You will not find a better value to move Mikel than right now
    - Carvalho – Has had a poor year, both Alex and Ivanovic have had good years. Also, we have Mancienne and Alcides in the youth ranks, try to get good money for Ricky and move along with the youth

Also, if hey can get good money for Deco, sell him. If they can make a profit on Anelka, move him as well. Try to sign David Villa and/or David Silva on the cheap. If not, fill in the squad with cheaper players I haven’t heard of, and then let Stoch, Mancienne, Sinclair, Di Santo, etc play on. Especially in the Carling Cup matches. No one cares about that contest!

    Also, bring back Wayne Bridge!!

  13. Yeah, Sometimes it will happen.
