Is Deco Having A Laugh?

Signing of the summer? I hardly think so.

Deco’s signing was hailed to be one of the smartest buys of the summer after he impressed in his first month with us. Unfortunately though, for our £8million we seem to have got just one month’s football out of him.

As he hobbled off the pitch again on Sunday against Citeh – a pretty familiar sight – it only really dawned on me then that he’d actually been in the side. And now we’re hearing there’s a chance he could be out alongside Joe Cole and Paulo Ferreira for the remainder of the season, with yet another recurrence of his hamstring injury.

Guus Hiddink suggests “I think he will be out for a while. He was fit and has been working hard but got the same problem again.” And when pushed on whether or not Deco would make it back this season, said “I have my doubts but let’s see.”

Personally, I think that even after a start to the season where he looked like he’d just slotted in perfectly with Lampard, the minute he got his first injury, he just thought “fuck it, I’m too old for all this.”  I mean, we heard he’d ‘struggled’ to get his fitness back after that initial injury but how long does it take your average player to sort himself out? Most of the season? Hardly.

I think he’s having us on to be honest.
