It was another one of those ‘game of two halves’ last night as England edged to a 2-1 win over Ukraine at Wembley.

The first half was watchable, if more cautious than the weekend’s friendly but that was to be expected. Still, when Crouch put us 1-0 up around the half hour mark, it was a lead we deserved. Ukraine didn’t really trouble us and we played some decent football, with Wayne Rooney again at the centre of most of it.

Ok, so the second half wasn’t all that entertaining (to put it mildly) and it was sods law that of all players it was Andrei Shevchenko who came off the bench and equalised for Ukraine on 74 minutes but at least we had the last word.  Because it was the Chelsea and England captain, John Terry who’d made it clear before the game he planned to lead by example, did just that by capping his MOTM performance with the winner just five minutes from time.

So, halfway through the campaign, it’s five wins out of five under Fabio Capello and a five point lead in the group.
