Joe Cole To Be Offered New Deal?

We’ve had our share of bad luck again this season, some – like our early season choice of manager – was self-inflicted, whilst some – like our injuries – was outside our control. Now, whilst I realise we’re far from the only club to have had injuries, yet again this season it just seems to have been a nightmare, particularly where longer term lay-offs are concerned.

The effect of Michael Essien’s absence has been well noted and even Paulo Ferreira being out long-term has been more apparent with the recent questions around defensive cover.  However, the impact of Joe Cole’s long-term absence doesn’t seem to be acknowledged with as much significance as I’d expect it to be – or at least by those outside Stamford Bridge anyway.

Inside the club though, they obviously have noticed because rumour has it he’s about to be offered a new four-year deal.  Cole will have just a year left on his contract in the summer and with Chelsea keen to end any previous speculation linking him elsewhere they’re apparently ready with a deal worth £100,000 a week which will keep him at the club until 2013.

Excellent news for us and our midfielder, who is reported to be recovering well from his knee ligament injury and is expected to get back for pre-season training in July.

  1. at 27, I think this is a smart deal for us and maybe even for Cole - wow, he’s almost the forgotten man these days, eh? .. I wonder how the side would shape up with him on the right flank on a regular basis .. though I’d love it if he passed more often .. and accurate passes / crosses at that ..
