Glen Johnson To Return?

Between now and the start of next season, what with a new manager and Roman Abramovich ready to spend a bit of money again, there’ll be one transfer story after another, and yesterday there was one in The Sun that had me laughing my arse off – momentarily at least. It was the one about Ancelotti wanting Alexandre Pato……..and Glen Johnson!
Obviously the Pato bit didn’t make me laugh – it’s completely understandable Ancelotti would fancy him playing up front for us, after all, he’s previously said of the 19 year old striker “He has an incredible shot and great speed. He is twice as fast as a normal athlete.” So, if he’s looking to add a bit of pace as well as a goal threat to our frontline, then Pato could well be the man (or boy) for the job.
Anyway, we were reported to have offered Milan about £30million for him and with Milan confirming last night that a bid had indeed been received, I guess that’s one rumour to be taken seriously.
No, it was the Glen Johnson bit that had me laughing, especially the £12million price tag. I mean ok, he’s looked good at Portsmouth lately – so much so that both Liverpool and Man City are also rumoured to be after his signature – but the irony has to induce more than the odd smile doesn’t it?
The first signing of the Roman Abramovich era, Glen Johnson, at £6million looked pretty decent to start with but following a spell out injured, both his form and his discipline took a nosedive and he fell further and further out of favour until we eventually sold him to Portsmouth for around £4million. Needless to say, to read about him being linked back again for 3 times that amount, is a bit of a joke.
I can see him at Liverpool myself!
