Gerrard Free To Fight Another Day (or Night)

Come on, was anyone really surprised Saint Stevie got away with his Mike Tyson impression?

Of course the jury were always going to clear him of affray once they heard how fed up he gets of being ‘mithered’ in the street just because he’s famous, and how ‘gutted’ he was the DJ wouldn’t play what he wanted. Why was it exactly Gerrard expected the DJ to do what he was asked? Wouldn’t have been because he was famous would it? No of course not, the DJ should’ve just stopped being awkward I guess – then again, most people are awkward when they’ve been called a ‘prick’.

Still, the jury seemed to understand perfectly how not getting to listen to what he  wanted was provocation enough for Gerrard to start throwing his  fists about – well especially once he’d explained it was ‘self-defence’.  Mind you, since the CCTV shows no sign of the DJ raising his fists, I can only assume Gerrard was expecting his ears to be battered by the sounds of Wham or something equally as torturous. No wonder he felt the need to hit Marcus McGee no less than three times eh?

Anyway, a few well placed tears as a Dalglish statement made it clear Gerrard’s ‘never forgotten his roots’ (hence the bar brawling) a quick “sorry about the whole incident” and Saint Stevie walked away a free man to the (just as predictable) applause and shouts of “come on Rocky” from fellow dippers – no idea where we get our ideas about these stereotype scousers from though!

  1. BOOOOOOOOORING

  2. Still obsessed then?!

  3. Chavs in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
John Terry? (yes the ultra loyal one ‘upset’ he can’t get City’s money level from the Russian Pimp).

  4. Poor bitter Chelsea fans. Back to their insignificant selves now there’s a new big spending kid on the block.

  5. What a disgrace Gerrard is eh? Not a bit like YOUR club captain JT !

Do you remember his court case when he was charged with Assualt & Affray ? Do you remember him, fat frank and the boys being reprimanded for their drunken behaviour in front of american tourists on the day of September 11th ? Maybe you hadn’t jumped on the Chelsea bandwagon back then - are you only a recent convert to the beautiful game ?

  6. Chavs in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
John Terry? (yes the ultra loyal one ‘upset’ he can’t get City’s money level from the Russian ).

  7. Has he been getting tips from John ‘Chav Thug’ Terry?

  8. we can understand, why not u? bad…

  9. You really don’t have nothing better to do?? Come on men, we all know that Gerrard is better player then Fat Frank and now you are trying to convince that Fat Frankie is better then Mr. Liverpool. Really men, go out, enjoy in life!!

  10. This article has been written by somebody with a crooked mind, who is jealous of Gerard and who is not famous.
It is not by writing this kind of shit that you’ll become famous!
In writing this, he clearly MEANS that the jury and the ENGLISH COURT have been partial hence NOT reliable.
The English court should SUE this chap!

  11. Talk about your own players mate, hardly bastions of good behaviour are they?

Or better still, let’s talk about football.

  12. Chelsea football star John Terry punched a nightclub bouncer so hard he broke a bone in his hand, a court heard yesterday.

Terry, 21, allegedly suffered what doctors call a “boxer’s fracture” to his right hand when he punched doorman Trevor Thirlwall, 28.

Terry’s hand was examined by Chelsea medical officer, Neil Fraser, the day after the player is alleged to have attacked Mr Thirlwall at the exclusive Wellington nightclub in Knightsbridge, central London, on January 4.

Dr Fraser told the jury at Middlesex Guildhall crown court in London: “The injury suggested he had broken that bone having put some degree of force through it. He had an x-ray and saw a specialist and it was confirmed he had a fracture. In the medical textbooks it’s referred to as a boxer’s fracture.”

Terry has admitted punching Mr Thirlwall once but claims it was self defence and he has denied glassing the bouncer.

He claims that a fight broke out after bouncers attacked his friend Wimbledon defender Des Byrne, 21 - the two players were on a night out with another Chelsea player Jody Morris, 23, when the fracas happened.

Morris yesterday became the third player to give evidence and denied attacking anyone, saying he was too small to have done so.

He claimed he was talking reasonably with Mr Thirlwall and another bouncer Shaun Brice when fighting broke out.

Morris denied that he had told club manageress Sasha Keegan to “fuck off”.

The players had been asked to leave the club after that and Morris said he was reasoning with the bouncers, asking them to get the owner of the club Jake Panayiotou.

He said Mr Thirlwall then threw a punch at Byrne. Byrne was ushered away. He said Byrne had become “really angry” and went back through the door where he got “battered”.

Mr Morris denied “piling in” as the fight spilled outside.

Terry denies wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possessing a bottle as an offensive weapon. Byrne denies possessing a bottle as an offensive weapon and all three players deny affray.

    The trial continues.

    OBVIOUSLY NO CHARGES EITHER

  13. John Terry would never do anything like this, absolutely not.

    Small time!

  14. I was in sympathy with the general tone and argument of this article until I saw the regrettable ‘ dipper’ slur at the end. When advocating a sound case - and it was of OJ proportions that Gerrard walked - and I am a Liverpool fan from Liverpool - why spoil it with such cheap ethnic stereotypes? Mate, I don’t even know what Chelsea fans are - you have no location identity I can discern of. Half of you don’t even reside in the borough - and I should know having lived down there for fifteen years. Is it because we have defining characteristics and are known throughout the land , for better or worse, that fuels this petty sniping?

  15. Obsessed.

  16. Absolute disgrace! All his tramp mates plead guilty and he gets off? It cant be self defence, he was the one punching! If he didn’t play for that bunch he’d have gone down. Hopefully karma will catch up with him this season and someone will break his legs and back with a crunching challenge.

  17. bitter bitter chelsea. Gerrard didnt want to play DJ as you are putting it. There was another reason behind it. The DJ was insulting him and his family over certain incidents from his past, through his music and The mike. so dont go spouting off bout stuff you dont know. only the people who were there know what its all about!

  18. Have you ever heard the saying about people in glass houses? Your own skipper had a court case regarding assault & affray back in 2002 ! Then there was your players (again including JT) disgracful behaviour following the world trade disaster ! As for scouse sterotypes, didn’t that joke go out of fashion along with Harry Enfield back in the early nineties ? I suppose you will spend the rest of today singing Chaz and Dave songs whilst eating jellied eels - see how pathetic it is !

  19. The entire court charade was an absolute joke. The jury obviously consisted of 5 Everton fans and 7 Liverpool fan, plus the judge was also a Liverpool fan.

Fucking scousers. the shit of England.

  20. Imagine the alternative though: Judge Globe’s family threatened and victimised and the members of the jury having to move to Torbay under assumed identities. Much easier to accept lifetime access to the executive boxes and the odd accusation of cronyism from rival fans. Footballers nearly always get away with this stuff but you have to wonder whether the press, not least the ‘impartial’ BBC, would have given Terry, Ashley Cole or Drogba such a soft ride

  21. Poor bastards! If Gerrard was a chealsea player would they have said such thing?. Remember Terry was also dismissed for same. Long live Gerrard. You’ll never walk alone.

  22. well gettin into a bar brawl is any day better then getting caught for shop lifting…..

  23. Mr Woods - just jumped on the Chelsea bandwagon? get a grip man, if I was really a gloryhunter do you honestly think now would be the time I’d be attracted to Chelsea? lol.

And as for all the pretty predictable comments about JT - am I meant to leap to the defence of a player who’s quite obviously been toying with the idea of moving to a richer club? Because whilst some supporters might go out and burn his shirt before again declaring their undying love for him once he agrees to stay, that doesn’t work the same for everyone.

  24. I dont know, these bloody cockneys. Burberry wearing, blinged up, jeelied eel eating softies. Did you write this piece whilst stood round a piano having a knees up.

Getting away from the stereotypes. Was Gerrard guilty of something, yes of course he was. Was he guilty of the charge brought against him, no he wasnt.

  25. Chelsea D. When I said about jumping on a bandwagon I didn’t mean ‘NOW’ as in today . I meant since the money arrived at ‘your’ club and supporting them became fashionable ! The fact that you throw in the line about Gerrard toying with joining you because you are richer tends to support my theory about you being a johnny come lately . Where you actually aware of the incidents involving JT that I referred to ? If you were, you should grab a dictionary and look up the word irony before putting your thoughts in the public domain…. If you can’t find one I could ‘nick one for you’. I will be the one on CCTV with the curly hair and moustache no doubt saying calm down, calm down !!

  26. Further response to Chelsea D . You now appear to have shifted your attack away from Gerrard and onto Liverpool fans who as you say burnt his shirt before once more backing him. Is this as you now realise that your original attack on Gerrard was a complete nonsense in light of your own clubs ‘recent’ brushes with the law? The fact that you appeared to be unaware of these incidents suggests as Mr Woods says that you have jumped on the Chelsea bandwagon - have you ever heard of Chopper Harris or more recently Kerry Dixon or does you knowledge of the team you no doubt profess your undying love for only stretch back to the special one taking over ? You are an embarassment to the genuine fans your club has. The ones who have stood by Chelsea through thick and thin…….mainly thin !

  27. Mr Woods/Davey - seeing as you both seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet I’ll answer you both together. So the fact that I’m not prepared to defend Terry’s brushes with the law equates to me not actually knowing about them? Get over your bloody selves ffs, it just means I’m not prepared to back players when theyre out of line just because they happen to wear the club’s colours. So Mr Woods, get hold of that dictionary you’re preaching about and look up the word ‘morals’.

  28. It’s quite sad really that almost 90% of the posts here are from Liverpool supporters. Nothing better to do? Really? I fucking hope Chelsea supporters don’t waste their time on Liverpool blogs.

Secondly, comparing JT’s situation to Gerrard’s is a joke. The trade centre comments and the brawl where the turning point for him. He was young, stupid and learned his lesson - like most adults do. Gerrard is 29 years old and should know better. He was in competition for the England captaincy not so long ago and he is Captain of one of the worlds most famous clubs. Oh and Terry’s brawl wasn’t on camera to my knowledge and ALL of his friends didn’t admit to being guilty.

Thirdly, most of the ’scousers’ posting here are probably not even from Liverpool anyway.

  29. J Spencer - A link to Chelsea D’s article appeared on a website called ‘NEWSNOW’. This site collates various news stories regarding LFC amongst other teams. I therefore came across it while searching for information regarding MY team. I am sure that other reds found it that way too. Like me they no doubt felt compelled to respond to such utter rubbish being written. If you look at my earlier posts you will see that I am not actually defending Gerrard. I think he was as guilty as hell. The thing that annoyed me was being preached at my a supporter of Chelsea (of all teams!!) regarding players behaviour - its like Myra Hindley’s Mum talking about child protection - it raises an obvious response !

(Of course as Myra was only young when she committed her crimes, you no doubt think that it was just down to youthful exumberence !

As for most of the posts not being from scousers, i can’t speak for the rest but I can assure you that I am a ‘genuine’ scouser and have also had a kop season ticket for 25 years. We do get a lot of fans from outside the area. I can only put this down to us being the most successful team in the history of the british game - its a tough cross to bear !

  30. Cheap shot…….chelsea punk.

  31. Again, we have no proof of what Terry did to my knowledge. We do, however, have pretty damning evidence of what Gerrard did. The myra example is laughable by the way. Let me give you my own example. It’s like one teams captain made mistakes like a lot of footballers do when they are young as we all know, learned from his mistakes and then went on to become a good role model and england captain. Versus an older professional, who is also a big role model, at the end of his career making those same mistakes. It’s different. IF terry was wrong he should have gotten community service, same as Gerrard.

Either way we have a legal precedent now. I’m going to go beat up a DJ who doesn’t play my music for me.

  32. J Spencer - We don’t have a legal precedent - we simply have the decision of a jury . It has no bearing on future cases whatsoever. . . . .just before you go and thump a DJ ;-)

  33. Rich people have all the fun.

  34. Mr Woods - nice line about Myra btw, lol.
