John Terry Finally Speaks!

Oh well, John Terry’s temporary bout of muteness looks to have been cured, with the release of a statement insisting him leaving Chelsea was “never a possibility”.

The 28 year old centre-back says “There has been a lot of speculation recently about my future and I want to clear this up once and for all. I am totally committed to Chelsea and always have been.  Chelsea have also made it clear to me consistently that there was never any intention to accept any kind of offer.”

The trouble is, some of us just don’t buy it. If him leaving was ‘never a possibility’ and he really has always been ‘committed to Chelsea’, why has it taken so much time and so many reported ‘discussions’ for him to come out with a statement to that effect?

Edit

The Chelsea captain went on to say:

‘When you are linked with any club, or with a manager who I have huge respect for, it will always make headlines but me leaving Chelsea was never a possibility.’

‘I know there has been comment that I should have made a statement earlier. However, throughout this period there have been numerous discussions between myself, the owner and the Chelsea Board and we all agreed that the timing of any statement would suit everyone involved in those talks, not any outside influences or agendas.’

  1. terry would nerver leave chelsea how ever da offer was 50 million or 500 million….terry wiil always be our captain

  2. Quote from the statement:

“I know there has been comment that I should have made a statement earlier. However, throughout this period there have been numerous discussions between myself, the owner and the Chelsea board and we all agreed that the timing of the statement would suit everyone involved in those talks, not any outside influences or agendas.”

The reason why he remained silent.

Let’s be honest, everyone knows that he was never going to leave, come on seriously - John Terry playing for another club, let alone Man City, it was a no go from the start. I don’t think we even needed a statement from JT, we all should know full well he’s Chelsea through and through and will remain at the club for the remainder of his career!!

  3. If thats the case - that he’d agreed with the board not to make a statement - how come whenever Ancelotti/Kenyon were questioned about it, they didnt seem to know the answer? Surely they’d have just said exactly what JT just has?

  4. Hi Chelsea D I have to say I agree with CFC1905 and the reason he has replied is because you didnt post the full statement. With news like this its massive. Forget your Ronaldo’s/Kaka’s this is our MAIN news this summer. If JT was gonna go (which I never believed he would) he would of gone when the story first broke.

Just think that because this news is as big as it is then the full statement should of appeared..

  5. Chelseadaft - when the story broke, the full statement didnt appear in the press in its entirety - it wasnt intentionally left out, it just wasnt available at time of writing.

Anyway, my point remains the same - if the board already knew he wasnt going anywhere, why didnt the club issue a statement to that effect right at the start to nip the endless speculation in the bud? And why would the club have allowed Lampard to add to that speculation even further with his comments, particularly when it was clear supporters were starting to doubt him?

    I don’t buy it.

  6. So are you going to publish it in its entirety now?

  7. You know, JT & Chelsea are smart -

Maybe they were delaying it, giving City false hope and delaying them time to get other targets.

    Hmm?

  8. Oh dear … now the ‘fact’ about demands for an improved contract have flown out of the window:

I’m expecting the ‘who does he think he is?/Too much influence’ argument next. Please disappoint me and just admit you were WRONG

  9. @Troy.

Honestly I think he was just using this for equal pay with Lamps. Delaying city from signing a CB is just a bonus we get. Not that they will do anything this year anyway.

  10. Fools JT just found out that the clubs in Manchester use CCTV !!
Plus his mum did not fancy the shops around Manchester as thier was notting new to PICK UP !!!

Plus is he much of a improvement on Richard Dunne or a step backwards ?

  11. Ces - not at all, the ‘I wanted to know Lamps and Cole were staying’ is far more plausible surely?!

  12. Sham, welcome back mate, hope you had a nice summer and are looking forward to the game against Scotland’s elite:-)
As I said I was going to watch Liverpool against Singapore, but I think Man City turned up to play for Singapore as they were a mix and match team of misfits and eventually got humped!
Anyway, shame you did not get JT, maybe an overspend on Mattew Upson or even Bobo Balde, who may be a better bet and an easier target!
Have a great season and we’ll see you in the CL at the end of the season….then again

  13. Jockney/Peter
    Its still summer here !!
And I never when away !!!
Is JT an improvement on Richard Dunne??? I would rate Dunne a better player last year !
You not holding on to too much hope of Chelsea making the CL next season are you?

  14. JT took his time confirming his allegiance to the club.

He was clearly stalling to see if Chelsea were serious in the transfer market and serious about winning trophies.

It’s a shame then that Liverpool are probably favourites for the title
