Does Di Santo Move Make Sense?

TheChelseaBlog recently did an interview and one of the questions was about youngsters who could have an impact for us in the coming season. Even while I was singing the praises of Franco Di Santo, I had this horrible feeling the answer would probably be invalid by the time the season actually kicked off – and so it proved yesterday as we saw yet another of our young prospects farmed out on loan.
Franco Di Santo yesterday completed a loan move to Blackburn Rovers with an initial deal until January although this could be extended until the end of the season.
I have to say I didn’t greet the news with much more than a few choice expletives because whilst I understand the idea of sending young players out to get playing time and experience in theory, in practice, we just seem to do it far too often.
The real problem I have with this is just the practicality of it. I mean, Anelka and Drogba looked pretty poor against Reading and whilst I’m not assuming they’ll both play like that all season (or at least I’m bloody hoping they won’t), I think it’s clear they’ll both benefit from the odd rest now and then – and with our injuries being the way they usually are, maybe even have rest enforced on them. Yes, we’ve signed Sturridge, so he could get games and Kalou looked lively at the weekend but then there’s a chance he could be heading to North London, so why send Di Santo on loan now?
Besides any potential injuries there’d be plenty of cup games between now and January for players like Di Santo, so why not leave him at Stamford Bridge and see how the land lies for us at the turn of the year, especially when Allardyce was suggesting he won’t necessarily give the Argentinean much playing time before the new year anyway?
Doesn’t make sense to me.

true, considering the complementry attributes to sturridge.whom he and di santo can replace anelka/drogba like for like in cup games.please dont sell kalou, the boy is a late bloomer.he will come good by 26.plus he scores important goals.lets get rid of the old players before the young.i also say nay to pirlo,30.please someone younger like gourcuff, kerlon, lulinla, sweinstiger etc.you know about old dogs and new tricks. younger players will adapt better to the epl. . .
pls stop loaning off our talents, whats wrong with the coaches why are they sticking with the old salts we need stoch, kalou,di santo, zhirkov to be formidable both in the epl and champions league, the old dogs are injury prone and tired lets face it!!!!!
I think it does make sense as you can have a look at him playing day in day out in the priemer league plus you can see what he does with not as good player around him. as he would get alot more chances and more balls in the box at chelsea where as he will have to learn to take evry chance as you dont get many in the premier league. when he returns he will be alot better.
It make sence to franco as he has told pals the love of his life is a northan girl. He is totally besotted with her and wants to be nearer to her,and has welcomed the move at this time.
He will do better here and get to play more good luck to him.
We do have a habit of developing young players for a period and then seemly letting them dissolve away at other clubs on loan, to eventually sell them seemingly as “Cheap as Chips” For example..Ben Sahar..once a promising talent that looked a real prospect for breaking into the first team..gone! ….sold abroad for a song! Another really promisng player Miroslav Stoch on loan to FC Twente…will he ever return to forfill his potential??? So now we’ve let Di Santo go to Blackburn..to doubtless score a packet load of goals!! Although I hope we don’t get a repeat of the last coulple of years…but a few key injuries early season and we could well regret this policy..BIG TIME!!…St MD
Cant understand the why we are signing Pirlo, he is old just like deco last summer. I cant figure out what the board is trying to do. Its plain for everyone to see that all our young players should be kept and given more playing time. Kalou has great skill he just needs to work on hos shooting. Please dont sell kalou he is only 23 not 28 as some papers have been saying. Wenger is a great talent spoter. He took Henry, Viera, Adebayor, Van pesie, Begamp, all were average players but turned them to world class players. Kalou has so much natural talent.
I agree — I would prefer to see Stoch, Di Santo, Sahar (and now Sinclair) getting some time here. The good news in this particular move is that it is only until January. He won’t be cup-tied for the FA Cup, so maybe he comes back in January with some experience and is able to make more appearances.
The bad news is that Shevchenko and Pizarro haven’t been sent away yet and appear to be favored by Ancelotti. Expect to see Sturridge and Shevchenko leading the line in the Carling Cup.
