We’ve Heard It All Before Rafa!

Oh Lord! The season’s barely underway and Rafa’s off already.
Not surprising he’s feeling a bit defensive since they managed to drop points in their very first game of the season but just so we’re all aware it wasn’t because they’re simply not good enough, the goateed one points out (publicly of course) “This will be a different sort of title race. Already we have lost, and so have Manchester United” – at which point he probably put his tongue back in.
To be fair to United though, it’s always dodgy taking on the new boys in the early part of a season. How often have we seen teams come up and pull off shock results? Hull had a blistering start when they came up and I remember Ipswich doing pretty much the same thing. These teams are the unknown quantity, no-one in the Premier League has played them and managers certainly wouldn’t know as much about how to set their stalls out against them as they would teams like – oh I dunno, Spurs for example. I’d definitely be happier if our game against Burnley wasn’t coming up quite so soon.
Anyway, just to make it clear there’ll be plenty of points dropped by all of his rivals too (and to reassure himself no doubt), Rafa feels the need to let us all know “There are other teams who can make an impact – Spurs, Manchester City, Villa – and I believe it will be a lot harder this season for the top four teams to win every game.”
I guess that’s why, ahead of their game against Villa at Anfield tonight, he’s already laying the foundations of an excuse if needs be, stating “Villa will be difficult for us. They have pace, experience and ability. They do very well in away games because of that and are an extremely dangerous side.” Is it just me, or has the FSW lost a bit of his swagger?
And another one who’s holding back from making his annual statement about it being ‘Liverpool’s year’ right now, is the club’s captain and saviour Stevie Me, who suggests “The opening games have shown this season it will be very difficult to win. We are going to have to be even better than last season. It looks like it is going to be a very competitive league. You can tell that after the opening round of games. The points total we amassed last season would have been good enough to win the title in the last three or four seasons, but it was only good enough to be second. Every season it gets tougher to win the title, but that is still our ambition. A setback on the opening day was not fatal. But it has been a long time since Liverpool won the title.”
Obviously going for the understatement of the month award seeing as the player of the month will have passed him by.
Seriously, how many years now have we heard ‘it’ll be a different sort of title race’ and realistically, how many years has that sort of statement panned out? Is City’s wealth genuinely going to make any difference to who finishes in the top four? Are Spurs honestly going to sustain anything that remotely resembles consistent results through til May? And whilst Villa are definite contenders for Europe, is that likely to be Champions League?
Anyway, I digress – Come on Villa.

Chelsea News 24/7

Absolutely pointless blog. You point out the fact that rafa needs to point out certain things which seem pointless, yet you yourself do the exact same thing. Complete waste of my time reading this as it’s just complete drivel.
Boo hoo. You have to admit he’s good for a laugh though, even if he does repeat the same old stuff year in, year out.
Same thing will also happen this year…Chelsea will try and fail to win the Champions League despite all Roman’s millions….
And if you think that losing at Burnley was because they are a newly promoted club and United played them at the start of the year you must be smoking drugs son.
‘Despite all Roman’s millions’ Sean? Dear oh dear, same old tired lines as your manager really. Obviously Liverpool haven’t spent much in the Premiership years have they, which allows them to to take the holier than thou attitude. Oh no wait….lol.
Poor old Rafa, has he given it up already?
in the last 8 or so seasons in the prem, liverpool are only second to us in spending, so sean, you’re right the half a billion pound investment that roman has put into chelsea hasn’t won us the champions league, but the 300+ million pound investment still ahsn’t won you a league title
Sorry but you have gone right over the funniest point from Stevie Me’s comment.
No last years point total (86) would not “have been good enough to win the title in the last three or four seasons”. Going backwards from 07/08 its been won with 87,89, 91& 95 points. What is it causing you a problem Stevie? Maths or reality?
sean ur a ja***ss. First find a title den talk about chelsea. Surely cant win prenier league n u r talking about other teams. Ur motto is always “this is our season blah blah blah” n den during the season u come up with excuses. Keep on wignining bitch!
stanstreason – Spot on!
Noticeable its a bit quiet in terms of defending themselves for a change. Dippers feeling a bit edgy I reckon
Sean you are simply talking bullshit ..Chelsea win will the champion league with more respect than your sucker team do.Common THE BLUES.
Oh dear, another 3 points gone. Looks like I might’ve been right
I have just seen the result of the the Liverpool game and they have lost to villa.
Well well well!!…seems that the bearded waiter is now able to see into the future…He was already making excuses for another loss and he’s got that one spot on too…poor old giro collectors…what or who will they blame next for their dismal start. to the season…will they make Europe next year??…Ha ha ha ha ha…try and keep up lads Ha ha ha ha ha….Carefree!!
The Dippers are in trouble!! No late game heroics for them this year like they did so many times last year!
I like this one too, maybe were not so different after all. Interesting with the transfer window closing soon and rumours and speculation flying around all the time that you do not look to put a call out to Roman and his minions.
“We will have a marquee signing”, “100 million pounds available”, “Team needs nobody”, what is the deal?
Are we become cheap like Arsene or just terrible at transfers like Rafa as their methods are great if you do not want to put anything in the trophy case.(Fans of Liverpool and Arsenal the wins by Wags and Benny were built on the previous managers and are years and years previous). Or are we intimidated by Man City?
ChelseaD I think you hitting on this as a subject would be interesting because after reading all your gloom and doom you can not tell me you do not crave for a striker, yearn for a play maker. Where and who the heck is the player that can set our hearts a flutter.
I await to hear from you on this topic that is coming quickly to a close
