Good News For Rafa: Liverpool Have Overcome This Before

Great to see Liverpool completely capitulate against Fulham today and have a good laugh at an exhausted looking Benitez as he trudged towards the tunnel.  I mean, we all know how arrogant confident they are irrespective of how many times they have to dust their ‘history’ down, but just when I thought I couldn’t laugh at them anymore, Jeff Stelling comes out with a great one-liner :

“Liverpool HAVE won the title before having lost 5 of their first 11 games………it was in the 05/06 season………..the 1905/06 season.”

Carling Cup Draw: Chelsea The Victims?

The draw has been made for the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup and unsurprisingly we’ve drawn Blackburn away.

Why do I say unsurprisingly? Well there seems to be a bit of a pattern developing in our games of late – Blackburn at home in the league, Bolton at home in the cup, Bolton away in the league, Blackburn away in the cup……

Obviously after we’ve thumped them both at Stamford Bridge, we’ve yet to see how we do away from home in both fixtures but I’m not just thinking about the outcome in terms of results – what about this bloody swine flu?Read More

Bolton vs CHELSEA: Preview

Venue: Reebok Stadium

Date: Saturday, 31 October 2009

Kick-off: 1500 GMT

So, it’s our second game of the week against Bolton and in terms of precautions against the swine-flu ridden side, it seems the only one we’ll be taking is putting out a full strength squad after we rested a few for the Carling Cup mid-week.Read More

CHELSEA 4-0 Bolton: Goals Still Coming

Well that wasn’t too difficult was it?

Another home game, another 4 goals, all that was missing was the three points although on the evidence of this, we might only have to wait until Saturday before we take those from Bolton as well.

Carlo Ancelotti made the changes he said he would, resting the likes of Petr Cech, John Terry and Frank Lampard, with Essien and Drogba on the bench.Read More

Will Chelsea Be ‘Exposed’ Against Bolton?

Our last game in the Premier League on Saturday, saw us play against a Blackburn side exposed to swine flu as a result of some squad and club staff falling foul of the virus.

Tonight, we’re apparently up against another set of potentially contagious opponents, with Bolton manager Gary Megson suggesting several of their personnel have been victims of swine flu although declining to name names.Read More

CHELSEA vs Bolton: Carling Cup Preview

Carling Cup fourth round

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Date: Wednesday, 28 October

Kick-off: 1945 GMT

Another home game for us tonight – clearly a comfort zone for us again, unbeaten in 16 and winning the last seven at Stamford Bridge. Not that tonight’s opponents will necessarily be put off by that, given the sort of game Bolton are capable of giving us.Read More

Chelsea’s Most Underrated Player?

Joe Cole left the field to a standing ovation on Saturday and to be honest, that appreciation has been a long time coming.

It’s something I’ve never really understood (and raised on TheChelseaBlog in the past), how time and again Joe Cole’s worth not just to his club but also his country, is overlooked.Read More

CHELSEA 5-0 Blackburn: Blues Back On Top

Can’t grumble at that eh?

Well, you could say if we’d taken the chances we missed in the first half, double figures wouldn’t have been out of the question, but let’s not be picky here. Paul Robinson might have seen five go past him but he saved just as many and certainly worked a lot harder than any of team mates can claim to.Read More
