Mutu vs Chelsea: The saga continues…

You just knew it didn’t you – the Adrian Mutu saga couldn’t just die out and go away – and surprise, surprise, the Romanian has managed to drag it out even further by getting his compensation payment suspended – for now.

As we’re all well aware by now, Mutu failed his drug test by us way back in 2003 and yet some six years on, despite the Court of Arbitration ordering him to pay us £15 million, he still doesn’t look like paying a penny.  Because yesterday, after an appeal to the Swiss Federal Court was accepted, Mutu has had the payment put on hold.

The former Chelsea man seems to be fairly tight-lipped about it all for a change, saying only “The situation is still very delicate, so it’s better not to talk about it.”  His management team, on the other hand, are a bit more vocal about the ‘battle’ with Chelsea, with Victor Becali stating “It is going to be a tough battle, but I’m convinced we can do it. We’re happy and optimistic.  Of course, if Mutu had stayed with us the whole time, this would never have happened, but there’s no point discussing it now.  Mutu is happy and will play a great game for Romania against Serbia. We hope this whole matter will be resolved by the end of the year.”

..and if not, I’m sure Mutu will be more than happy to drag it into its seventh year!
