How highly do we rate Daniel Sturridge?

I accept that answering the above question might be difficult considering that Daniel Sturridge has only played once for Chelsea since signing from Manchester City in the summer. However, I’d like to gather some opinion on how much we expect from the 20-year-old.
One man who does expect him to achieve big things in his career is Sven Goran-Eriksson. The former England boss – who worked with Sturridge at Manchester City – believes that the youngster has all of the tools to become a top quality striker.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website (any idea why he was doing that by the way?), Sven said that it was ‘very easy to see’ that Sturridge is a ‘very good footballer’. Going further into his description of the player, he mentioned how he is a ‘great finisher, strong and possesses a good technique’.
As mentioned before, Sven clearly thinks that Strurridge has all of the right attributes to be a good player for Chelsea in the Premier League and help increase their odds of winning the Premier League title. Hopefully, this does prove to be the case. As we all know, the current squad does contain some ‘wrong side of 30 players’, so it would be good to see a young player achieve good things.
How accurate is Sven’s opinion though? Have you seen Strurridge play in recent months? Can he establish himself in the Chelsea team over the next couple of years? I have really liked what I have seen so far, but would be good to see what everyone else thinks.
It is certainly going to be interesting to see how Carlo Ancelotti handles young players like Sturridge. Does he give him the occasional run-out from the bench? Does he start him against the weaker teams at home? Or does he let him play his football in the reserves for the majority of this Premier League season?
As ever, your opinion is welcome on the issue, so please let me know where you see Sturridge in five years time maybe. Hopefully he will be banging in goals for Chelsea and England, but we all know that not everything works out as you plan in this game.
Over to you…

Chelsea News 24/7

Like most, I have not seen enough to provide an informed opinion but his pre-season and reserve outings have provided much hope for the future. What I will say is I hope Carlo gives him the chances to prove himself at senior level; Carlo had a record of providing youngsters with first team chances at AC as much as his trend to go with the older players so here’s hoping he intends to ease him in prior to the African Nations departures, I’d prefer him to the missfiring Kalou on the bench at prem games and perhaps as a starter in the Carling Cup. If he’s ever going to be the hoped Chelsea and England star then he should be made ready now at 20, not wasted in reserve until the cliched ‘peak’, if he’s good enough, he’s old enough is a cliche I prefer.
I’ve seen him in a few reserve games he does pretty well..If anyone remembers that Aston villa reserve game he was the only one that looked capable of doing anything. I have high hopes for him.
We shouldn’t be basing any reasonable judgements on what Sven has to say.
As everyone else says i havent seen too much of him apart from in pre season, reserve and a bit at city. He looks like a good player. and i reckon can become one of the best strikers in the world in a couple of years. i think we should start playing him in easy home gmes, cup games. Then have him and anelka up front while the ACON is on. but i dont want to see another good young striker wasted out on the wings. play him through the middle unlike what we did with kalou.
We only signed him cos he’s english and young… the same reason we got got turnball in.
It’s us attempting to hide the fact that our youth team hasn’t produced a starter in years.
It’s us attempting to pad our “english grown” champions league squad members.
Neither will ever get a chance to play for us… They’ll regret signing for us. Well Sturridge won’t, we’ve given him a nice 60k a week to never play for us.
Break even soon my a$$.
lets see he was basically the best player u20 last season in the EPL. scored and assisted more the walcott did with less time on the pitch. Basically a great super sub for manCity. Has a bit of a problem with injuries as he gets alot of knocks due to the way he plays.
Very technically capable and strong in possession. Good eye for a pass and goal. Basically a very capable player and he is left footed meaning that we can stick him on the right side and he will feel at place, something we havent had since duff left.
Sturridge is an amazing footballer but dont expect him to augment anelka and drogba anytime soon, he could take the 3rd striker away from kalou though.
Turnbull is the one we should be looking at? Anyone see the Arsenal Reserve game? Horrid.
well, we knew how poor sven’s judgement was about theo walcott…this one is no different…daniel sturridge is just another decent young footballer like anyone else..he’s not gifted like rooney but he can be a very good player if he works hard…so it is no use holding him on a such a high regard because he might be just another waste of talent in English football..
i think sturridge is pretty good, dont think he will be as good as rooney since rooney has amazing physical abilities mixed with great technical skills and a great engine.
that said sturridge is a better finisher the rooney and has a decent turn of pace.
Sturridge at the moment is a 50/50 bet. Either he becomes just good enough or he doesnt. Dont expect him to be C.ron or messi, if he was that little bit faster i would compare him to torres.
