Chelsea Transfer Ban: Not All Bad News

They say every cloud has a silver lining and with Chelsea subject to a transfer ban, our silver lining could come in the form of the club being forced to bring players like Franco di Santo back from loan.

Let’s face it, we might have bought a few decent young players (or indeed kidnapped them, depending on which version you go with) but we’re never really going to make good use of them unless a hip-replacement forces someone out of the first team. And yet this ban might change all that.

Di Santo had a good game for Blackburn against Burnley at the weekend, scoring his first Premier League goal and manager Sam Allardyce acknowledged “Di Santo was terrific - he is a young man learning his trade. He has finally got a chance to start some games and he has grasped it.  What pleased me was the lay-off for Dunny’s goal. He will take confidence as well from his first goal in the Premier League. If he can continue to play like this it will be good for us and Chelsea.”

Personally though, I hope that come January, it turns out to be better for us than them.  As Allardyce rightly points out when asked whether he’s likely to get to keep our young striker “I do not think that there is any real chance of that.  There is a transfer ban on Chelsea and with the African Nations coming up they will probably need him.”

Of course we need him. I’ve always thought Di Santo had potential and he should absolutely get the opportunity to prove it during Drogba’s absence. Surely that’s exactly why he’s at Blackburn getting Premier League experience right now? We might have Sturridge as well, but how likely is he to be thrown in come January when he’ll have gone months without a competitive game? Another one who could end up regretting his move if he doesn’t already.

This ban really could be a blessing in disguise.

  1. True - Would be great to see a few of the young unknowns breaking through, many of whom have great pedigree.

  2. Honestly,Sturridge NEEDS a game, sub appearence AT LEAST.he scored a hattrick in his last game.he hasnt played for club or country yet.Come On Carlo! Even red nose throws on welbeck in games their not winning. He most of all needs a game for confidence . .

  3. Pls carlo, at least for games like blackburn start sturridge, zhirkov, joe cole,so that they can all be in-form.so when the african players will leave, they can at least replece them when they will be playing more competitive match.

  4. Zhirkov was brought for £18m & you have not even tested him in the premier league instead you prefer to use that strong malouda with no skills. That is why people like aguero, ribery, pato, dont like to come to chelsea because they fear the risk of been dropped on the bench.

  5. pls Anceloty, why have you decided not to use the life of the young players like Sturidge,Zkirkov,Borini.these guys are good,if you dont make use of them,u will not know what these guys can offer us.Also you always find if difficult to make change on time.

  6. Am begining hate carlo, cos its seen to see is killing joe cole zirkov and sturidge. And his d main reason why chel lose to villa, he can’t make changes at d right time and even if he do he put d rong like belleti. He should b making use of, cole and zirkov b4 he get himself sack bye carlo man wit old esperience.

  7. agree.. agree… we lost to villa not because of set plays. Its becaue they are faster than us. Set plays is just one aspect of it. They move the ball faster than our 30ish players could cope

  8. plz!!!!!!! zhirkov should play carlo let him show his skills i m sure he will replace malouda who do not have any type of skill ! we paid 18 millions for him so he should be utilise properly at let him play in carling cup! plzzz
