TCB Exclusive – Aguero: Chelsea Interest Makes me Proud

Sergio AgueroChelsea target Sergio Aguero has refused to play down his interest in a big money move to Stamford Bridge.

Atletico Madrid claim they rejected a £42m bid for the Argentina international last summer but in the wake of Abel Resino’s sacking and a disastrous start to the season the Primera Liga outfit have opened the door for a fresh Chelsea bid.

The Blues have long been admirers of the brilliant 21-year-old striker and if FIFA allow them to make transfers in January, Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly expected to make Aguero his number one target.

The Argentinean Player of the Year has so far refused to comment on speculation linking him with Chelsea but today he broke his silence by revealing his long time admiration for the west London club.

In a The Chelsea Blog exclusive, Aguero said: “It has been said that Chelsea are interested in me. It makes me feel proud that a team as important as Chelsea notices me and what I do.

“Since I played in Independiente, English football has been one of my favourites. The speed and the way it is played have always made me feel that I could adapt myself to it quite easily.

“I used to watch the Premier League on TV, but I did not prefer any team in particular. However, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool, especially in the last few years, are the teams that have caught my attention.

“Before my name was included in PlayStation football games, I used to choose Milan, Chelsea or Manchester United.

“Chelsea has great players, but I don’t prefer any of them in particular. The player that I admire the most nowadays is Carlos Tevez. I love the passion with which he plays.”

Aguero, nicknamed “Kun” after a Japanese cartoon character with a similar hairstyle, said he was focused on Saturday’s match against city rivals Real Madrid as Atletico seek to haul themselves out of the relegation zone.

They are in 18th place out of 20 with just one win in nine matches and replaced coach Abel Resino with Quique Sanchez Flores on Oct. 23.

Chelsea are waiting to hear the result of their appeal against FIFA’s transfer ban and if it’s lifted or frozen they could make another move for Aguero either in the January transfer window or next summer.

The Atletico Madrid striker also said that he is happy to stay in the Spanish capital for the time being.

The 21-year-old Argentina international scored two superb goals in Tuesday’s 2-2 Champions League draw with the Londoners but he’s not letting his head be turned by the rumours.

“I don’t really want to think about any other team. I want to fight with Atletico to the death,” said Aguero, who joined the club as an 18-year-old.

“I almost feel like I was born here. It’s a club that has given me a lot, pleasure as well as pain, but it’s a place I feel very happy.”

  5. Exclusive? You mean you made it up? This article was doing the rounds on every syndicated site for 10 hours beforee it appeared here.

  6. He may be a good player and all of that .. but can we stop buying for a bit, I think we have a great squad, great team and how about giving kalou, di santo and sturridge a chance – why buy these youngsters if they are not the next logical conclusion?

I can smell another protracted transfer saga .. can you?

  7. Question is, how long will Anelka and Drogs be able to perform at the level they are performing right now?
Kalou is a good prospect, but he tends to drift in and out of games. Sturridge is yet to display what he can do. I’d expect Aguero or Pato in blue come February.

  8. hjc – what usually happens with exclusives? from memory, every other journo going re-hashes it for publishing no?

  9. Traditionally, only the writer with the original interview claims the exclusive. Those who syndicate it give proper attribution to the original source, unless they don’t have any ethics. Why did you claim an exclusive for yourself by plagiarising the work of others? To big yourself up? Disgraceful attitude.
