United Defender Unconcerned About Absences?

Manchester United defender Gary Neville is making it quite clear he has no sympathy for us whatsoever when it comes to the effect ACON has on us next month. Hardly groundbreaking news really. I mean, why would any of our rivals give a shit less that we’ll lose two of our best players for a few weeks in Didier Drogba and Michael Essien? It’s not like we broke our hearts when Ronaldo and Tevez left them on a permanent basis is it?

Anyway, the Daily Mail (who coincidentally aren’t our biggest fans), share the United defender’s views with us, which suggest we’ve always known we’d be in this position, so tough luck. Neville says “Chelsea were aware when they signed those players that they might be called up every few years for the African Nations Cup, so they can’t complain about it.  Up to 31 Premier League players will soon be off to the African Nations Cup, but the fact that we’ve got no African players at the moment means it doesn’t bother us.”

I suspect he’s thanking his luck his club didn’t sign either Mikel or Essien when they wanted to although he doesn’t think we’ll miss them that much either apparently, stating “Chelsea will lose some big players like Didier Drogba and Michael Essien, but I don’t expect them to struggle. They will only lose their players for three or four Premier League games.”

So losing important players in clearly no cause for complaint in his book then?

Makes you wonder why he then makes this point really “We’ve lost seven defenders to injuries this month.” :)

  1. if there is an excellence in taunting award gary would hv capped it 20 times in a row throughout his less than impressive MU career. does MU need to activate the ‘mind games’ engine midway through the season? u hv the answers. frustration n anger r fears turn inwards. yes we falter a bit lately its all but a blip n we still hv a decent back four guarding the fort. losing 7 regular defenders on their side is now sweeping MU’s title push sideways. so gary why not look deeper into yr own backyard that u so often lead erractically n let us deal w our own because each time u slip we would at least up a point n thank u very much.its arsenal n aston villa we r watching closely now. MU minus CR7 is for anyone to beat with or without a proper backyard.
