Joe Cole To Replace Robinho? Chelsea Don’t Think So

Back in the summer of 2008 when all the talk at Chelsea was about Robinho, TheChelseaBlog suggested we already had the player we needed right under our noses – we (or at least our managers) just didn’t appreciate what we had in Joe Cole.

Ironic then that whilst we’re waiting for Cole to sign a new contract – and the opposition are wetting themselves at the thought that he might not – we’re hearing that Man City are now hoping to sign Cole as a direct replacement for the Brazilian.

Unsurprisingly, bearing in mind City wasn’t exactly his first choice, Robinho hasn’t impressed in the way he’d been expected to. In fact, for their £32million, City seem to have got themselves a very expensive sub. So, with the rumours doing the rounds that Chelsea are refusing to agree to Joe Cole’s demands for a £50,000 a week pay rise, we’re told City’s money men are waiting in the wings with the offer of a £5million signing on fee and £150,000 a week to prise Cole away to replace him.

Fortunately, we’re all aware the press have offered us nothing to substantiate their stories although in terms of quotes, what we do have is one from Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck today, insisting Chelsea want to keep their midfielder, and saying “I can give you those reassurances, I am personally a big fan of Joe Cole, we are in discussions with his agent and hopefully that will be sorted out soon.”

  1. well Joe Cole can name his price and chelsea will pay it to him? why’s the contract not signed then?

  2. it wil b a gud deal

  3. swiller – of course Cole can’t just name his price and to be fair to him he isn’t the sort of player who’d try holding the club to ransom either. I’m sure any delay is around his agent merely sorting out a deal that reflects his worth and Chelsea trying to be a bit more realistic about their wage structure these days. Hopefully as Buck says, they’ll reach a deal they can both be happy with.

  4. Joe Cole wouldn’t get in our side.

Not been the same player since his last bad injury.

Okay for a squad player, though.

  5. City can do a lot better than JC, near the end of his career, injury prone, hardly ever scores, and only wants to stay in London.

  6. MCFCtid/jak – talk about ideas above your station. Joe Cole wouldnt get in your side why? Because youre better than that? Get over yourselves ffs.

  7. staggered by the deluded man city fans
youve won a couple of games and you think you are all that?
    listen to your selves
joe cole would walk into your side
    youve won nothing
    youve got no heart
    wankers

  8. joe will stay, where else can he go? he would be benched if he went to MU or madrid. a bench warmer rather than an assuring england future with chelsea? not likely. agents r always manufacturing stories using ‘free’ media specially a paparazzi infested society like england where gossips n controversies r way of life where people r buying n reading tabloids to the last page daily. i’ll juz relax n watch the ‘show’ koz at the end of the day a little extra $ fr MC means nothing when u fall from grace. juz look at robinho, barry n tevez. r they really performing? i’m so glad we missed robinho.

  9. MCFCtid….you clearly don’t know much about football!!

None of your team would make the bench at Chelsea and Joe wouldn’t dream of joining your club…too small!

    carry on dreaming geezer…

  10. if every player that’s juz returned from injury playing 63% of his normal game deserves stabs from the back from coaches down to papermen well i guess 85% of the epl players will be showered with news of moving from earth to moon every month. why trust the papers? people who depend on poison pens for a living? why not trust the guy with the ball under his feet? MC can continue to throw their weight around but still there’s something lacking…….. i dont care if they can get barrack obama as their keeper…….. but i juz dont think the dignity tank of joe cole is that low……….

  11. any ‘big player’ who signs for MC is a small man w a big wallet to fill. mark hughes got what he deserved for trying to unsettle us last summer. i remember his cheeky grin as if JT was already in his pocket. u cant juz bulldozing everyone in the path with $$$$$$$. by far roman showed more class than the arabs. MC is merely a toy in the box.

  12. the only way, realistically, for MC to win the epl, with an oil-rich owner boasting an obscene wealth above 500b pound, is to buy off the other 19 competing teams (the yanks would be happy to offload MU n liverpool) n sits behind his diamond-bedazzled sofa remotely plays a joystick commanding them to drop points, example MU must lose 75-0 to portsmouth at home, since there can be only 1 manchester team, so a record breaking leak is desperately needed to salvage some pride long missing on the wrong side of manchester. that way MC will lift the cup instantly. i mean instantly. even before the epl begins its campaign. seriously? yes. seriously. Hee hee.
