Disrespect Out Of Order At Bridge

Yesterday, I ended up in a position of feeling I had to defend myself against over-generalisation from opposition supporters. Why? Well because sadly, there seemed to be some very vocal supporters at Stamford Bridge intent on living up to the ‘classless’ tag.
I’d read a few comments on message boards ahead of the game to suggest Bridge wouldn’t be warmly received but felt fairly confident only one or two mindless twats would genuinely risk showing themselves up in public by coming out from behind their screens and opening their mouths. Unfortunately though, the minute Wayne Bridge left John Terry stood there with his hand outstretched, it started.
Now I’ll be the first to admit I thought the timing of Bridge’s announcement to stand down from the England set-up was a bit stage-managed. I mean, why do it directly before we faced his club? Why not leave it until afterwards if what you really want is to get on with your life as far away from the spotlight as possible? It stood to reason the eyes of the world would be watching even more intensely once he’d made that decision public.
Still, whatever his reasons for the timing – and we’re hardly in a position to criticise him whatever they are – whether it was to shift our focus off the game, put us under pressure, or simply just to make sure as many people as possible tuned in to see him show John Terry up, Wayne Bridge was entitled to gain at least something out of the mess Terry created.
Evidently though, there was a section of the home crowd who disagreed because despite being a totally committed player during his Chelsea days, not to mention his unforgettable late goal against Arsenal in the 2003-04 Champions League quarter-final that got us into the semis, the former Chelsea favourite was booed every time he touched the ball – well for the first twenty minutes at least, until they got bored or realised how pathetic they sounded.
So what exactly had Wayne Bridge done wrong to deserve that sort of treatment from his former home crowd? Was it because he had the audacity to feel put out enough by his former team-mate and ‘friend’ doing the mother of his child to not shake his hand? Or because he decided to put the success of his national side before his own international career? Seriously, someone needs to explain the logic of these people to me because I just don’t get their point.
If those individuals in the crowd honestly thought they were doing JT a favour today or were showing the Chelsea captain support with their vile behaviour towards an innocent party, then they need to have another look at JT’s game. Because Terry’s performances of late have been anything but worthy of cheering every touch of the ball, and yet these mindless retards chose to hold him up as a saint and Wayne Bridge as the sinner.
Oh and for the record, TheChelseaBlog completely disassociates itself from that type of ‘supporter’.

Chelsea News 24/7

Fair play mate not a CFC fan but good to see not all of you are complete c*nts.
Well said. Bridge really has done nothing wrong, and has lost out in the process. Terry is and always has been a twat of the highest order. I’d certainly not want him in my team, regardless of whether he was any good or not, and I’d sure as hell not shake his hand in Bridge’s position. If these supporters fell differently then maybe they have the same low morales that Terry does?
Yes, makes sense .. the chap played for the blues with a 100 percent dedication .. btw, I haven’t been living in a cupboard but I still don’t understand the specifics of the case; 1. JT slept with her? confirmed or the injunction was to quell false reports? 2. He slept with her after Bridge left her?
As a passionate Chelsea supporter for almost 50 years, a season ticket holder, a pitch owner and a previous share holder I feel that we need to stake stock and reflect on
1. Why we continue to dmage ourselves due to the pathetic and childish off field bevious of our players – this creates an anti-Chelsea culture which I feel is damaging us greatly
2. The need to let some players go. Ballack, Hilario, Ferreira, Belletti, Deco are simply either tooold, lost the passion or simply no longer good enough. Joe Cole and Kalou are not performing to previous standards and shoul;d be let go. It pains me to say this but Joe Cole simply isn’t worth another 5 vyr contract at £5m/yr – what would we get for the overall financial commitment of £25m?. Finally Mike, the jury is still out but his languid performances have cost us points
So, we need a clear out. Roman is going to have to put his hand in his pocket in the summer – we urgently need rejuvenation
Meanwhile I am sorry to say that we are unlikely to win the league this year. I believe that we have, once more, self-destructed
It doesn’t matter if Bridge and whatever her name is had broken up. How would you feel if one of your best mates started banging the mother of your child – then while admitting he’d made a mistake, never bothered to actually apologise for it?
I thought the reception from a surprisingly large portion of the chelsea fans was disgusting, and just reinforces a neutral fans’ image that many chelsea fans are mindless idiots who feel players like JT are above the club and can get away with anything they want, and should be supported for it. (apologies to the chelsea fans who are intelligent enough to realise Terry is 100% in the wrong here)
I can see why Bridge quit england as well, fair play to Capello in stirpping JT of his captaincy, but if he had any real balls, players like JT and Ashely Cole should be thrown out, or suspended from the England set-up – maybe just for the pre world cup friendlies or something, just to make a statement.
I think the Abramovich era at Chelsea has made these over-played footballers think they are now untouchable, and I just hope the same thing doesn’t start happening to City as well
Have a look at Piers Morgan s comments on your Captain …. it sums up what a lot of football fans around the country are feeling about your team at the moment. now i don’t like Chelsea, never have, never will, but feel that Terry’s time at Stamford bridge will be coming to end sooner rather than later. after all he is no longer the player that he was relying on others to do it for the team rather more than before. think your illustrious owner will want to off load him next season, to possible Shitty City, to get as much as he can with a view to bolstering your ageing team
See their are decent chelsea supporters out their. Those twats at Stamford Bridge really made a fool out of themselves by booing bridge it just showed how classless they really were.
Well personally I am shocked and appalled by the author of this piece of non- thought out mindless drivel of an article.
I am sick to death of this story. Had this have been anyone else there would have been less than a fraction of the news reports involved. Why? Because the only thing Mr Terry has done wrong is broken an unwritten rule among men, “you don’t sleep with your mates ex”, however how many men in the world have done it? It may be wrong but it doesn’t warrent the nationwide witch hunt the media has set againt John Terry.
Now along comes Chelsea D, yet another of the, “I can speak big words and work for a Chelsea websIte” brigade. I’m sick of these waste of bandwidthers sticking their useless two penneth in left right and centre. Not only did you use the term “retards” to refer to those particular Chelsea fans who oh so greatly upset you but your inexplicable loyalty for Wayne Bridge confuses me. You say he was entitled to get something out of the mess he created. Let’s look at the facts: Wayne was no longer with the woman and hadn’t been for 6 monthes, the only person who was cheated on was John Terrys missus. Now if anyone should have the nations sympathy it’s her, and like the brave woman she is she picked herself back up and chose what was right for her and her children. She didn’t necessarily do what the people of Britain though was right to do but then it doesn’t matter becase at the end of the day what do other peoples opinions matter when it affects an aspect of your life.
My point is this Chelsea D tried to outline that Wayne Bridge did nothing wrong to deserve booing from the Chelsea fans even though he outlined everything that Wayne Bridge did wrong in the third and forth paragraph not to mention leaving our captain his his hand outstretched.
The men and women that booed Wayne Bridge were brave and loyal to our captain and our team. I know Chelsea D that by trying to act appaulled by this act you may come across better to the general public but the truth of the matter is no matter what come before it football is a gentlemans sport and Wayne Bridge acted like a jealous child, and by calling the loyal supporters standing up and being counted for our captain “retards” your are nothing more than an unloyal childish pratt, and for future reference please notice how I don’t offend inncent members of the public with disabities or family members with disabilities by calling you an unloyal childish pratt.
Note to thechelseablog.org: please speak to this man about how he addresses the public as this is clearly unsuitable expecially when he is representing us as fans.
Football should be about 22 players on a field – what goes on off te field has nothing to do with mindless fans – yesterday at Stamford Bridge was absolutely disgraceful – those people who booed cannot be called fans – albeit it takes two to tango – and too much is being made of he situation by too many people – football was what we wanted to see not walking on glass or eggshells in fear of upsetting one player and as for the player who put John Terry down in an interview – look at yourself before critisising anybody else.
ben, you are the worst kind of cunt.
i dont think his timing was stage-managed at all. he had to announce it at the time he did because the england squad had to be announced then for the upcoming friendly.
I’ve quoted a blog here, these arent my words-just to point out that this,my friend,is the reason wayne bridge got booed for the first 15 minutes of the game.
What does Wayne Bridge think the pre-match handshake is for? Why does he think players do it? What does he assume that shaking hands before a match means? I’m genuinely puzzled by this.
Is it his opinion that, by shaking hands with an opponent, a player is saying, ‘I hereby register my approval for all that you are, as a human being. I hereby demonstrate, publicly, that I endorse the person you are, and every aspect of the way in which you lead your life, not simply on the pitch, but off it, too. And I hereby declare that there is a real and lasting bond of kinship between us’?
I guess he must think that, or he wouldn’t have declined to shake John Terry’s hand today. And yet that can’t be right, can it? After all, players have been shaking hands with, for instance, Craig Bellamy for years – good and decent players, with high moral standards, who would be appalled to think that their handshake might be interpreted in any way as a token of approval for Bellamy in a broader sense.
But it wasn’t, of course, and nor are those pre-match handshakes ever intended to be. The pre-match handshake is a ritual whose meaning is limited to the context of the game that’s about to happen. It’s the way in which players acknowledge a) the sporting – as opposed to serious – nature of the contest in which they are about to engage and b) the fact that the contest, by its nature, includes physical risk. Bridge appears to have misunderstood this. Worse, by self-indulgently over-imagining what was at stake for him personally in the pre-match ritual, he has turned an impersonal ceremony into the setting for another act in his own personal drama. In the circumstances, I don’t think an FA charge for bringing the game into disrepute would be stretching it too far.
Ben – how wrong you are. I don’t and never have professed to represent ‘the fans’. TheChelseaBlog simply offers a supporter’s opinion and yes, sometimes that’s a critical opinion because surely the nature of blogs is to debate?
Of course, by the same token those supporters yesterday were voicing their opinion, it’s just one I don’t happen to agree with and if that ‘upsets and appals’ some, I’ll live with that. Does it make me less loyal though? I don’t think so but then, I’ve never felt the need to justify my support just to appease others.
I agree with you here, definitely not a Chelsea fan but i thought for sure you lot had more class then to target the victim in all this, i understand your trying to stand by your clubs captain in trying times but as human beings you should have sympathy towards bridge in this situation. Good on you writing this blog showing your displeasure.
No winners on this one except the loyal blues
fans that still cheered the team at 4-1 and 4-2. People harping on about
JT base their truths on a good NotW story, yet to be supported by facts or evidence. Can’t help you people, I’m afraid. People who booed Bridge should’ve saved their energies for something more positive. Probably the same group that sings ‘stand up if you hate Tottenham’ even when we’re aging Arsenal. Can’t identify with them, either. Chelsea D calls people ‘retards’ because he disagrees with them. Must make for an interesting life. Fans of other teams like United coming on the site and writing semi-coherent posts about us being classless make me laugh. Rooney, Rio, Neville, Alderley Edge, yep that’s class…
Chelsea fans just show a new low of their behaviour, well done. What expacts of them anyway, right?
Ben, you represent what made the entire world classify chelsea fans as classless.
JT was the captain of wayne bridge and good friend, and then proceeded to bang his chick on the pretext of ‘counselling’.
If there ever is blind faith, you’re personifying it. Get a grip dude, your captain is turning in shit performances. He made tevez look world class, think about that.
ok bridge was a former blue…he gave gud dedication and was a decent player, buts lets highlight FORMER…..JT is our captain, our leader, and the best defender to set foot on english soil period! he gives total commitment for us at all times.! so he shgged…. his ex mates missus… he not the devil in carnate??? he made a mistake and he was punished let him move on…no that little twat decides to try make things worse by timming his ”retirement” so close to the games i mean he has had weeks to decide but comes out with it now??? that a low blow! and all this talk of class??? ye are the ;;elite prawn sandwhich brigade” yer the reason the atmosphere is null and void at our bridge…!!! wayne bridge is a weasel who was warned by several mates and team mates about that women before he decided to ”try” and settle down with her…he got wat he deserves and we need to get behind our leader when he needs us most…who needs enemies when uv got fans like u lot…plonkers………
Although I agree with your sentiments, read today’s press stories re: did he or didn’t he, she’s saying he didn’t but who cares. What winds me up is this has engulfed Chelsea and seems more important than the PL, CL and FA Cup. In my opinion 90% of footballers are classless it seems that the foreign players are the educated ones. How can a racist p*ck like Bellamy have a pop at Terry for his off field antics?? Leave it where it belongs and concentrate on the football, btw agree with feelings about Bridge, great for Chelsea, always gave 110% then we bought Cole….Let’s get back to winning ways soon
the mindless morons you so rightly quoted earlier seem to have a lot in common with their club captain right now…..Enough said?
all you chelsea fans who think Bridge is a cry baby, after all they “weren’t together any more”,let all your girlfriends past and present line up in a nice line to be shagged by your very own favourite son JT because you all think it is forgivable -as does Mrs Brainless but wealthy Mrs JT. I just think you are all missing the point while all this is going on= he is playing like a turkey!! He cost you goals against Everton, Milan and City yesterday and his form is nose diving just when you need him. He should not be your captain- all on his own he is fucking your season up! As for Ashley cole….! By the time the world cup comes round all you chelsea/england fans will be spitting mad at him. You should drop him.
bridge announced it at the time he did because of the upcoming squad announcement for the game agaisnt egypt. dont try and make bridge look like he’s done anything wrong. the only people at fault in this situation is the slag that bridge once called his girl, and the scummy blues including the biggest of em all JT.
Yeah, United … Class. You cyberheroes in your Somerset/Norwegian/burkina faso Internet cafes crack me up
well said ben…chelsea d ur a plonker….i hope sum do ur are blessed with a child that has mental issues…then u wont use the term retard so freely u cunt
JT is our captain, our leader, and the best defender to set foot on english soil period! Crap and assholes!! Bobby Moore / Ray Wilson / Billy Wright turning in their grave s at that – think again. Chelsea are a mercenary team for the most. Players for the really great teams desire “to wear the shirt”. Chlesea on the whole have no one who has that desire.
Chelsea may win the league and may win a double maybe a treble do “real Chelsea” fans want it at this cost _ would have done if Mother Russia would have kept Mourinho – what could have been!
We are not here on moral grounds, but we are here because we are chelsea fan, only thing matter for us is chelsea WIN and JT is employed to do that and not WB….what he did in 2004 …he got his salary for that…..he did no favor….trying to fool us and disrespecting will not get claps from US…….Class will be over if u dont win…REMEMBER….Once u sell JT then have all these morals for some ex-employees….BOTTOM LINE IS WE LOST….AND U DONT EVEN KNOW ALL THESE CIRCUMSTANCES HELPED THEM TO WIN……..
I support MUFC. Thank God that you are not all as classless as that. You should publically condemn these morons because they give your club a bad name.
“”Let’s do as John Terry keeps telling us he wants to do, and concentrate on the football. In his past four appearances, Chelsea’s captain has cost his team three points at Goodison Park, placed them in grave danger at Molineux, handed two gilt-edged scoring chances to Internazionale at the San Siro and seriously compromised their Premier League lead at Stamford Bridge”"
The guy from the Times is right. We lost on Ssturday because of JT and no one else, it was totally his fault.I dont care what he does off the pitch but when his off field antics start costing us games thats when I draw the line.If not for him Citeh would not have been so determined to win and we,d be 4 points clear still.
As for the booing it was disgraceful and depressing and it seems to me that they were booing a man because JT took advantage of their friendship and shagged his ex..Bridge was a good servant to this club, scored that goal against Arse and has done nothing to deserve his treatment by too many people who allow their opinions to be formed by the Sun.
John Terry needs to take a long hard look at himself and if we dont win the league this year I for one will forever apportion a large part of the blame on him.
Ben says that the fans who booed and slagged off Bridge were ‘brave and loyal’ are you some kind of moron? I think Bridge was pretty dignified and entirely correct not to shake Terry’s hand, not to mention staying quiet re the press. Good to see most sensible Chelsea fans agree with this post. I personally hope this is the end of the matter, let’s focus on the football, not the crap that goes on off and get behind the team, not spend energy ripping into old players.
I’m with Ben here, Bridge is fair game to be booed.he’s an ex player just like Poyet and Durie etc. They get booed because they went to Spurs. There were a lot of people booing was’nt there. As for calling CHELSEA fans retards????!!! Just because you boo an ex player that doesnt mean your a retard. How dare you!! Everyone has a view on this and if anyone wants to boo an ex player then why not. The people who booed are I would imagine backing their captain in a Chelsea shirt. And people commenting on here and taking the moral high ground and using the term classless!!!! Grow up get a life. Booing ex players is normal and I’ll boo an ex player if I see fit.
For those who think what JT did is no big deal and Bridge shouldn’t whine about it and take it like a man: I really doubt you’ve had your girl/ex girl/mother of your child done by your BEST friend behind your back, I really doubt it. Even in a situation where they’re truly falling in love with each other and decide to marry each other despite you, the sad best friend and ex-man, it would still be a difficult situation to take, let alone it’s just an affair which took place because obviously your BEST friend couldn’t give two hoots about you or your feelings. Or your trust. Or your anything. It’s fortunate Bridge only refused to do the moronic (in this case) handshake, I would have throttled the guy right there. Suckers you all.
Oh, and I also doubt you even have a best friend.
I am totally convinced that our captain would not have wanted anyone to boo Bridgy and it sickens me still that these smallbrains have no respect to someone who was a loyal servant to this club for many years.
