Doubly Wrong For Chelsea

The rumours linking us with Javier Mascherano and Yossi Benayoun seem to be gathering pace now – in fact, with quotes from Benayoun to back this particular story up, it’s almost at a gallop.

Despite never mentioning wanting to leave Liverpool before (or at least before they missed out on the Champions League anyway), Benayoun has apparently come out in the press this week claiming “Ancelotti wants me for next season and now everything depends on Liverpool. Chelsea will have to pay some £6m but I believe that in the end I’ll be moving there.”

Another one of their players who has said he wanted a move away from Anfield though is Javier Mascherano. The Argentinean hasn’t taken to life in Liverpool and although he’d prefer a move to Barcelona, him and his missus have been known to spend a fair bit of their time in the Capital, so apparently that’s enough to link him with a move to us as well.

Personally, I wouldn’t want either of these two at Chelsea. For a start Benayoun is 30 and if Ancelotti is meant to be looking at a younger squad then he’d be barking up the wrong tree here – well, that and the fact I just don’t think Benayoun is actually good enough for Chelsea. We already have better players at Chelsea than Yossi to start with so why pay out £6m whether it’s reasonable or not?

As for Mascherano, the age might be right but everything about this player is just wrong. Even without the question of who exactly the press suggest we’d drop to accommodate the foul-tempered Argie, the idea of this particular player in a Chelsea shirt is just wrong!
