Ozil To Choose Between Chelsea and Manchester United

One of the stars of the World Cup was Werder Bremen’s Mesut Ozil, who helped Germany to their third place finish in South Africa.

The attacking midfielder, who has just one year remaining on his contract, has today claimed he is interested in signing for Chelsea or Manchester United.

“There are four or five clubs in Europe that you would have to say as a player would be a dream to play for,” Ozil said. “Manchester United and Chelsea are very much two of them.

“When you are looking at moving clubs it’s impossible not to pay attention to the Premier League and even more impossible not to pay attention to Manchester United and Chelsea.

“I am a winner and, when I am looking for a new club, I simply look at where I can be the most successful and where I can win the most trophies. If you look at the recent history of Manchester United and Chelsea then it’s clear that a player can be very successful there.

“Of course clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are of huge interest and the Premier League’s top two clubs are of serious interest to me when the time comes. I am under contract with Werder for another year and it is impossible for me to say if a deal will be done this summer.

“They may decide that they want to keep me for another season or they may decide to sell me this summer so they can get some money for me. That is up to the club.”

  1. go back and read the daily star again. the haedline. mesut ozil dreams of jiong manchester united. plus chelsea are 12/i we are clear favourites at 2/7 so ha ozil is a red not a blue

  2. grow up pathetic little rent boys he will join big time charlies if he is after money and utd if he wants trophies

  3. He’ll choose united. Carlo wont buy him, sir Alex, wenger will try and he”ll choose united! :(

  4. brian, The day I believe what’s in the daily star I shall be in a mental hospital on such heavy medication I wont know who Frank Lampard is.
Either way it doesn’t matter, I doubt Chelsea will bid for him.

  5. real madrid.

  6. LOL at the bloke who brought betting odds into this, what an idiot. Ribery was odds on to join Liverpool last year, Kaka was odds on to join us under Scolari.. betting odds mean nothing.

Ferguson has already said there will be no more additions at United.

I think he is holding out for a move to Spain, but Chelsea can offer him a better contract and better chance of silverware. Why would he want to join a declining United side whom will be overshadowed by City in the next few years. He would relish playing behind a Drogba/Torres partnership and is exactly what we are missing.

Whether we will buy him is a different question. Its okay saying his price has been dropped to £12m but after bidding it will quickly rise to £20m and push United out the running.

  7. Ozil not good enough for Chelsea go to manure :-)

  8. Does he cost more than 10M? If so he won’t be joining Man United.

  9. I would be really happy if we could sign him and he is very cheap, below 20mil for a talent like that
