When it comes to Ashley Cole, there’s very few people outside Stamford Bridge prepared to champion his cause. It doesn’t really matter which ground we go to, he’s jeered for everything from mobile phone storage to upsetting Geordie lasses.

Although Manchester United are attempting to do all they can to claim that the momentum is firmly with them right now, the fact remains that the one team which is ready to kick on and take both Europe and the Premier League by the scruff of the neck is Chelsea.

Ashley Cole has explained away Chelsea’s recent blip by looking to the big players the team have been without. Now that Frank Lampard, Michael Essien and John Terry are all back, Cole reckons we’ll see more of the form we enjoyed at the start of the season.
