I’ve never wanted Fabio Capello managing England. Whilst there was a lot of hype when he took the job on, I just didn’t buy into it.

All this fuss about Torres at Chelsea had me thinking about Didier Drogba’s first season for us. Back in the 2004/05 season, I remember doing nothing but defending the Ivorian when everyone but me seemed to think we’d got a £24 million flop on our hands.

The draw had an air of inevitability about it. As Gary Lineker rattled and pulled balls from the ubiquitous glass bowl, audible gasps echoed around the Swiss auditorium that could be heard on the Kings Road. Gasps which confirmed the tie most Chelsea fans wanted, or feared, depending on their inclination.
