CHELSEA vs Norwich: Preview

Venue: Stamford Bridge

Date: Saturday, 27 August

Kick-off: 1500 BST

Why is it whenever Norwich City is mentioned, you just can’t help thinking about Zola and THAT goal?  This time though, there is no Gianfranco Zola, new signing Juan Mata is unlikely to feature, so we shouldn’t hold our breath for any fancy flciks and tricks unless Torres fancies a bash at entetaining us.

MANAGERS’ VIEWS

Unsurprisingly, AVB knows little about Norwich although ahead of playing them today says “I cannot go in depth on Norwich last season, but I know they had a fantastic season. They scored an incredible amount of goals, coming up twice, and Paul Lambert likes to organise his teams and play good attacking football, which is why they finished as the highest scorers last season.  I can only assess them from the first three games this season. There were some changes that Paul made in those matches, so that leaves us guessing a bit trying to find out what he’s going to do. To get the starting XI right would be difficult for us.  I don’t have enough in depth knowledge to be thorough in my analysis from last season, but he’s made two promotions, and this is of a high value given how tight the Championship and League One are.”

Norwich boss Paul Lambert meanwhile, says “It’s great for the players, they’ve earned the right to play at places like Chelsea, and I’m hoping they go and grab it, and hopefully win.  We don’t do it any other way, we go to try and win games.  That’s what we’ll try and do. We’ll have a big following ourselves, the stadium will have a great atmosphere, they’ve got big players, and as I said before, the lads have never sat back and waited for things to happen, so we’ll try and win.”

SQUAD NEWS

For Chelsea, Michael Essien, Petr Cech (both knee) and David Luiz (thigh) all remai out through injury, whilst Daniel Sturridge serves the last game of his suspension. Oriol Romeu and Romelu Lukaku should both be in contention although Juan Mata is unlikely to be in the side.

For Norwich, Vaughan,Ward and Ayala (all knee) all miss out. Leon Barnett returns after suspension and Wes Hoolahan (hamstring) is a doubt.

PREDICTION

Surprisingly enough, Norwich are one of three sides to have won more games against us than they’ve lost in the Premier League, although their last 3 league and cup games against us ended in 4-0 defeats.  Currently though, we’re unbeaten in 8 at home, winning 7 of those.  Norwich meanwhile were top scorers in the Championship last season but they havent managed a win from their last 31 away games at Premier League level.Bode well for us today then? We bloody hope so!
