Whose Future Is John Terry Securing?

Bloody hell, John Terry knows how to up his profile eh?  One minute he’s leading England out at the Podgorica Stadium, the next he’s leading Chelsea out of Stamford Bridge. Well ok, like the rest of them, the Chelsea captain insists that’s not the case but we’ll all make our own minds up about that – as soon as we’re told a new site has been found!

Of course there couldn’t be a more high profile player to deliver the message the club wants to get across and they each have their own agenda for sure although despite the club’s insistence a move isn’t imminent, Terry says “I have great memories of Stamford Bridge but what excites me is the thought of my kids, who are Chelsea through and through, being able to grow up watching the team play in a big stadium.  We’re talking about the next generation of kids beyond that as well. It excites me because I know for sure that we can grow.  We can grow if we’re successful on the pitch and if we’ve got the capacity to expand and do what other clubs are doing.”

Strange our captain seems to be mentally imagining his kids in another stadium already isn’t it? Unless of course he knows something the rest of us don’t maybe? No of course he wouldn’t would he? Nope, the official president of the CPO just feels very strongly about supporting the club in a move and says “I wouldn’t be coming out, speaking publicly and backing the club if I didn’t believe in it.  I could quite easily say nothing and let the club do their thing, but I’ve been here for so long and I’ve spoken to the owner on numerous occasions. He is Chelsea mad and wants us to be in with the Barcelonas, the Man Uniteds, and we know that doesn’t happen overnight.  Other clubs throughout Europe have gone out and bought sites for big stadiums. We’re not the only club with a rich owner and there are others, including QPR locally, who are going to look to expand in west London as well.”

And ahead of the planned protests by the supporters who have great respect for JT, our Captain, Leader, Legend says “We all have great memories of the Bridge but for us to go further, we might need to move, and we have to trust our owner.  He has been amazing since he bought the club, along with our fans as well.  No one is saying it is going to be an immediate change but we need to be looking because I am sure other clubs will be looking at the same potential sites.”

Won’t do his longer-term career prospects at Chelsea any harm will it? Not that I’d be cynical enough to suggest such a thing of course – I’m sure just like Bruce Buck, our captain probably bought 100 shares to protect the club’s future too!

Blue is the colour

TheChelseaBlog.org is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
