JT Racism Slur: Will The Jury Reach Its Verdict Today?

You know, if Anton Ferdinand had just come out and either backed up the racism claims or refuted them, then we wouldn’t have to wait it out before John Terry’s fate is decided yet again.  As if it’s not bad enough the Twitter prosecution appeared to make their minds up within minutes of the YouTube evidence being posted, he’s more or less had his trial by media now as well, so if QPR could just get on and deliver the verdict, we can all apply for our visiting orders.

You’ll have to excuse my cynicism here, it just feels as if JT is responsible for everything from the London riots to man’s inability to accept monogamy at times so it all gets a bit monotonous really – and that’s from someone who isn’t even one of his most ardent supporters.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ve no intention of having a go at him (there’s enough people outside of Chelsea only too happy to do that), he’s been a bloody good servant and an unquestionably great captain for us, I guess he just courts controversy a bit at times.

And no, I’m not going to go into what happens off the field, again I’ll leave that to those more interested in what his parents may or may not get up to and I had my say on the whole Bridge-saga at the time (I’ve no intention of re-visiting the past) – I’m referring, of course, to the latest mud being slung in his direction.  Yes, the racism claims in the aftermath of our QPR game.

Firstly, I’ll just say that my immediate reaction when I read the accusation on Twitter was that JT may be a lot of things but I don’t believe for one minute a racist is one of them.  Having watched the so-called ‘evidence’ on YouTube, I certainly wasn’t any more likely to believe he was racist than I was to believe Chris Foy is up for ref of the month.

So what’s the problem then? Well, I just don’t think the statement hurriedly issued on Sunday night, particularly helped matters. You see, like so many other Chelsea supporters who’d lip-read the video, I’d been convinced JT had been calling the ref a “blind c***”.  Now ok, that’s not particularly respectful but it’s a whole lot more excusable given Foy’s performance and it’s a world away from a racist remark.

And then the statement read: “I’ve seen that there’s a lot of comments on the internet with regards to some video footage of me. I’m disappointed that people have leapt to the wrong conclusions about the context of what I was seen to be saying to Anton Ferdinand. I thought Anton was accusing me of using a racist slur against him. I responded aggressively, saying that I never used that term.

I would never say such a thing, and I’m saddened that people would think so.  I have known Anton for a long time and spoke to him about it after the game and there was no problem between us.  After the result, I am saddened to be dealing with these wrongful allegations. I am the proud captain of one of the most internationally diverse teams in the Premier League and I absolutely believe that there is no place for racism in sport and indeed in any walk of life.”

I mean, who actually wrote that statement or advised JT on it – Enid Blyton? Because it reads like something off Jackanory.  Why not just stick to the ‘I would never say such a thing, and I’m saddened that people would think so’ bit and leave it at that? Having said that, I stand by my original defence that he’s no racist, I just happen to think it was an ill-advised statement written in haste to nip a distasteful accusation in the bud.

So, let’s just hope that when QPR finally broach the subject with Anton Ferdinand today, the jury will reach its verdict and the Chelsea captain is found not guilty.

  1. I think JT has serve Chelsea well over the years, but let’s face it, his Mum was done for shoplifting his Dad has been inside, his cousin has done time for assualt and there’s you sitting at home stating JT is no racist. He obviously is a very good friend of yours and next time you and him hang out together socailly maybe you can ask the question directly.

JT is just like Rooney, a lowlife that has done well for himself through hardwork, BUT, there is a missing gene there and like all lowlife’s they carry this neanderthal way of thinking through their whole life, which you can not blame him for and his can not help themself as he was just born like that.

  2. Bascially your whole team are a bunch of wankers. If you can’t see what he says in that video then you must be as thick as your captain.
