A blue light at the end of the tunnel

And so, the fortnight from hell is almost at an end, although it still has potential to take an even uglier swing for the worse.

Andre Villas Boas, a man whose serene calm radiated the room when he held the attention of the media as he was announced as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor, a man who was at ease with himself and the task ahead, has had more than a few feathers ruffled in the past fourteen days.

A series of defensive press conferences, accusations that his side know not how to defend but just attack; that having being billed as a Mourinho mark two – something he immediately refuted – he has proved himself correct with some very un-Mourinho like displays.

But that is the negatives dealt with. The background rumbling of the John Terry race row will continue unabated, but there is little he can do about that. What he can do is show his strength of character and personality by going into the international break with a morale boosting win against Blackburn – not that the task will be as easy it appears at face value.

Perhaps the break after the game on Saturday will come at the worst time; marooned without any momentum that a quick succession of games bring, but instead left with a string of disappointing results ringing in their ears.

The Blues need an element of closure from their tumultuous experiences, and will seek to put their frustrations that have festered off the pitch into something positive on it.  Blackburn are a side under fire, yet in contrast to their results have in fact played well enough in recent weeks to warrant points.

Games against Tottenham and Norwich came and went with only one point mustered, when at least four were there for the taking. And as Paul Robinson – who has possibly given up hope of ever wearing the England Goalie Shirt again – has leaked the goals, Steve Kean receives a battering from all angles while remaining his dignity and composure.

Such is the narratives and nature of the game that there will be one side left downcast and defeated with nothing but a two week expanse in front of them while the other can at least clutch something to their chests to keep them warm before kicking into action afresh later in November. Here’s hoping its Chelsea.

Blue is the colour

TheChelseaBlog.org is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
