CHELSEA 3-0 Wolves: Report

Chelsea went into this game after not winning a home game since Everton, (lost 5-3 against Arsenal and 2-1 against Liverpool). Their form has been worrying and a win against Wolves would be a great confidence boost for the whole team.

Chelsea (4-3-3): Cech; Ivanovic, David Luiz, Terry, Cole; Ramires, Romeu, Meireles Sturridge, Drogba, Mata.

Chelsea finally got a 3-0 win over Wolves. Terry, Mata and Sturridge being the scorers. It was a much better Chelsea we saw against Wolves but there is still room for improvement.

Romeu played well in the holding midfielder role after a pass success of 92%. Mata was one of the stand out performers with a 90% pass completion and 2 assists and one goal. He played a part in all goals. Ramires also played very well; he used his pace throughout the game and causes several problems for the Wolves defence.  Romeu has proved himself to Andre Villas-Boas and I hope to see him as a regular starter.

When Torres came on in the 77th minute he played well, causing problems for Wolves at times he was unlucky to score. Chelsea controlled the game after having 59% of the possession and a pass competition of 87%. A much deserved win for Chelsea but some people will be questioning Wolves approach to the game,Mick McCarthy seemed to have told Wolves to defend despite Chelsea’s defending problems. A bad approach from Wolves and Chelsea made them pay.

The game today should be a confidence booster for the Chelsea team and lets hope they can carry this performance onto the upcoming games. Chelsea play Liverpool at home once again on Tuesday night which see’s Torres and Meireles return to their former club – Liverpool.

Andre Villas-Boas has stated he will not change his philosophy despite recent criticism, he is sticking to his “guns”, and I 100% back him in this.

Match Stats:

Possession:

Chelsea 59% – 41% Wolves

Attempts on target:

Chelsea 9 – 2 Wolves

Attempts off target:

Chelsea 7 – 5 Wolves

Corners:

Chelsea 9 – 2 Wolves

Fouls:

Chelsea 10 – 11 Wolves

Man Of The Match:

Juan Mata is clear and deserved Man Of The Match he showed real class for Chelsea today played a part in every goal, Wolves couldn’t handle him. Ramires or Romeu could claimed Man Of The Match but in my opinion it has to go to Mata, great buy from Chelsea in the summer transfer window and there is still more to come from him.

  1. I think Sturridge also played brilliantly, definitely a candidate for MOM in my opinion. he’s really come of age in 2011.

  2. Do you know Ramires is known as BLUE KENYA????!.He ran the whole game and he was constant threat. He was my man of the match.

  3. Best I’ve seen Chelsea play for sometime, even if it was against Wolves.
I by no means an expert on Football but I asked a friend if all the criticism of the high line was deserved and uncommon in Football. He said that many teams play with, what Chelsea’s problem was besides the lack of tracking by our defenders was the need for the midfield and wingers to press hard in order to prevent the opposition having time on the ball. This is what I liked from the weekend, 3-0 by HT was great but the effort in D satisfied me.
On another note, Romeu seems to be getting a fair go, will McEachran??

    Bring on Liverpool and Newcastle!

  4. Well done to AVB for making radical changes to the midfield. Just needs to replace the pedestrian Drogba with someone who actually wants to score goals. Maybe a role here for Chelsea’s No 9 (?!

  5. Wolves fan in peace have got to say a well done to you guys of dispatching us with ease. Our confidence was also pretty low now got 4 points out of a poss 30. For me not attacking you guys was a bad idea as in the second half we had a couple of good chances but the ball managed to avoid every player in the box a few times.

Well what can I say your team should definetely be there or there abouts at the end of the season. Mata is a class act and if you can keep him fit will be a major outlet for you in this campaign and others. Great finish from him on sat and also another mention for sturridge looks a quality act he terrorised us last season and did on sat although having big george at lb did not help. For me the best thing for you guys right now would be to get rid of the dead wood and bring in some fresh young talent e.g drogba looks like he struggled to get any real pace and if I were AVB I’d bring in rossi from villareal.

Glad to see someone trying to catch the manchester clubs and is going to be a good season at the top of the league but nailbiting at the bottom. Roger johnson is poor gets put on his arse a few times in one match. One player that is goung to save our season and that is hennessey.

  6. Well, 4 me i tink chelsea did well and de coach in paticular he well too,but i see no reason while he shd be blame, dis young man is tryin to buid chelsea wit anoda way of playing b4 dey adapt it, it will take time,so let de owner be patienc,he is a gud coach.and i pray so dat de coming game will be won desame as dis one.

  7. Congratulations on beating Wolves who are in the bottom 4, and hit by injury and suspensions. You have clearly turned the corner. I have no doubt you will finish between 5th & 7th in the Premier league this season.
