Man City v CHELSEA: Preview

Venue: Etihad Stadium

Date: Wednesday, 21 March

Kick-off: 19.45

City go into tonight’s game four points adrift of United and given their lack of experience in these title run-ins, you’d have to suspect anything less than 3 points would see their neighbours pretty muck on course for their 20th title. Not to worry though, because according to Roberto Mancini, City will definitely win the title this season, so by his reckoning, they’ll win all of their remaining games.

Should we save ourselves the trouble of a trip then since the result is apparently a foregone conclusion? Well, maybe if this game was being played a month ago that might have been preferable but following the departure of AVB, Roberto Di Matteo has managed to get four win from four out of the players. So, assuming those players do actually turn up again, much to Mancini’s disappointment I’m sure – we do stand some chance of competing for the points.

So, going into the game, we already know Mancini is a cocky fucker pretty confident, stating “We will win the title, we will win. We will do everything to win the title. We need to think positive always.   I am happy to meet Di Matteo, he is a good manager, he did very well at West Brom. Now he is continuing to do very well with Chelsea, but I hope we can win. Chelsea are a good team but they were before with Villas-Boas.”

The more modest Roberto Di Matteo meanwhile, says “We have a very good team and squad, they are very strong and have shown it over the years. Obviously, the table shows City have won more games this season than us but we’re very competitive (with them).  Do I believe we can compete with City (tonight)? Yes I do. We have that added experience of playing big games at this stage of the season.  We have a lot of players who have played many important games. That is certainly a factor in our team. I know they’ve won every home game as well. They are obviously very strong at home, everybody knows that, but every run comes to an end.”

For City, Lescott (groin) is out and Kompany (calf) is doubtful, but Zabaleta (hamstring) and Barry (back) are fit. And for those who haven’t already seen the headlines, the City squad may include Carlos Tevez – assuming he can be arsed to pull a shirt on of course.

For Chelsea, John Terry misses out.

MAN CITY (from): Hart, Pantilimon, Richards, Zabaleta, Kompany, Savic, K Toure, Clichy, Kolarov, Johnson, Milner, De Jong, Y Toure, Barry, Pizarro, Nasri, Silva, Aguero, Balotelli, Dzeko, Tevez.

CHELSEA (from): Cech, Bosingwa, Ivanovic, Luiz, Cahill, Cole, Bertrand, Mikel, Essien, Meireles, Ramires, Lampard, Mata, Malouda, Drogba, Torres, Sturridge, Kalou, Turnbull.

Chelsea 2-1 City (12th December 2011)

Well, City’s home form is not the sort we want to be facing really because whilst we’ve failed to win in our last 4 away in the league, they havent lost at home all season. Add to that we’ve lost on our lat two trips to Eastlands, and you can see where I’m heading in terms of a prediction………..

  1. chelsea will be beaten to 2-1 goals from milner and teves and torres

  2. Without a doubt todays clash between Chelsea and City will be one stepping stone for both teams. For Chelsea possibly a decider if they are to dip into the first four and for City to see if they have something in their finish. A word from the wise: Chelsea is experiencing an upswing form under the modest DiMateo, whereas City looks like they are running out of breath, and ideas mind you, after a long run at the top.

  3. Your facts are correct but something tells me a surprise 2-1 cfc win is in the cards today.

  4. We will beat the Citizens, 3 – 1

  5. now i knw why man united call them noicey neighbours, but tonight we will short their mouth. Full time score at Etihad is ManCity 1 – 3 Chelsea.

  6. Tonight game is not goin 2 b easy 4 both teams but someting tells me chelsea wil suprise City with 3 goals to 1

  7. Man City may look kinda scary and intimidating couple with Mancini bragging and all that, Chelsea will definitely show an oppressing challenge along with a superb victory. We’d just sit back and watch how the 90 minutes end.

  8. What I think about Chelsea is winning tonight….the citizen pressure can be our advantage at the match up to the end of game MAN CITY 1 – 3 CHELSEA
