CHELSEA v Manchester United: Preview

Date: Sunday 5th November, 2017
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Kick-off: 16:30 GMT

After a 3-0 defeat against Roma midweek in what was quite probably our worst performance under Antonio Conte to date, this afternoon’s game sees us back home against Mourinho’s Manchester United. Probably not the fixture we’d have wanted when we need to get back on track but it gives the red tops the opportunity for a few corny fireworks headlines.
Whilst we come into today’s game off the back of a dressing down from Roma, United supporters make the trip after a bit of a dressing down themselves. Not that a bit of criticism from the manager will bother them, they had a win in Europe midweek and sit second to City in the Premier League, which might explain the selective hearing.
You won’t hear them complain if he sends them out to ‘not lose’ against us today either – particularly if they win.

Going into today’s game, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte chooses to focus on the challengers for the title, saying “Now there are big problems for all the teams that want to fight for the title. The big problem is Manchester City. If City continue in this way it will be difficult to fight for the title. We have to try to do our best.”
United manager Jose Mourinho meanwhile, decides to focus on himself, saying “I have to admit it’s a little bit different but in the end I want to win like I did with Inter. They want to win like they did last season and it’s just one more day. In a couple of years it will be even more natural, and in four or five years probably no one will remember that I was Chelsea manager and it becomes absolutely normal. It isn’t a big thing. One day you are in one club, the next day you’re in another club.”

For Chelsea, Victor Moses remains out but we could see Gary Cahill and N’Golo Kante back.
For United, Jesse Lingaard (back) is out but Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young should both return.
