Antonio Conte press conference: Christensen and Courtois doubts against Spurs

Speaking ahead of the must-win encounter against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, manager Antonio Conte delivered some key injury new which could have a bearing on the outcome of the game.

Defender Andres Christensen, who was sent home by the Danish national team last week from fatigue, is still not 100% and will be assessed before this one. The youngster has been one of our best defenders this season, and his introduction in the centre of the back 3 has brought in calmness and assurity. However, he has been making important mistakes recently, notably leading to decisive goals against Barcelona and Manchester United.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois missed the FA Cup quarter-final win over Leicester two weeks ago with a muscle injury, which also kept him off international duty with Belgium. It is unclear whether he will be fit to play on Sunday. Willy Caballero, who made his debut for Argentina last weekend, is on standby.

Ross Barkley and David Luiz are on the road to recovery, but are still a while away from getting back on the pitch.

Conte did endear himself to the Chelsea fans with a dig at Spurs’ dismal record at Stamford Bridge. It was way back in 1990 when the Lilywhites last left with three points, with Gary Lineker scoring the winner.

Conte reminisced about the fixture two seasons ago, when Spurs looked like sure-shot winners when they led 2-0 at half-time. However, an inspired comeback in the second half capped off by a quite incredible Eden Hazard striker saw Mauricio Pochettino’s relinquish the title race, with Leicester being crowned champions.
