Anelka is a very happy boy at Chelsea

When Nicolas Anelka joined Chelsea in January 2008, they became his fifth Premier League club after spells at Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Bolton. However, it appears that the striker has never been happier than at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking for the first time since the end of last season, Anelka revealed that he is ‘very pleased about everything’ at the moment and that he was enjoying his time with Chelsea a great deal.

Anelka did manage to net 20 Premier League goals last season, so I guess it is no wonder that he is happy to stay where he is. For the first time in his career, he is holding down a regular first-team place and scoring goals at a top four English club.

Referring to his achievements last season, the Frenchman said that it was ‘pleasing to finish as top scorer’ at a ‘big club like Chelsea’. All in all, it is fair to say that Anelka is enjoying his football a great deal at the moment.

There is no getting away from the fact that he was one of Chelsea’s most consistent players last season and no-one can argue about the goals he scored. I’m not one to blow my own trumpet, but these quotes
from a piece I wrote in July 2008 suggest that I backed Anelka to succeed all the way!

“There is no doubting his ability as a player and I would like to think his Chelsea career starts now.”

“Anelka hasn’t scored the goals he has during his career by playing out wide. A central role allows him to use his best attributes more effectively and that’s where he should play for Chelsea this season.”

“I’d like to see the football odds on Anelka being Chelsea’s leading scorer this season, because I’d be tempted to stick some money on it.”

I am really glad that these predictions came true and that he had a productive season. Hopefully this will continue under Carlo Ancelotti this season as the striker looks to confirm his place in Chelsea’s elite.

He certainly believes the team can win ‘both titles’ and there is no doubt that if Anelka finds the back of the net as regularly as he did last season, the chances of this are increased dramatically.
