Chelsea Aiming Higher With Second Signing?

Ok, so we’ve had our first signing of the summer with mixed opinions. Personally for me, Benayoun isn’t the sort of signing I’d been hoping for in terms of strengthening our double-winning side but after the initial disappointment, I’m open-minded enough to wait and see how it pans out now.

According to the press we’re far from done there though and whether the club are prepared to dip a bit deeper into the transfer market or not, we’re still being linked to a whole host of talent around Europe.

According to ‘sources in Germany’, Thomas Muller is top of Ancelotti’s ‘to buy’ list. The 20 year old forward has stood out for his country in the World Cup and earnt himself a place in the semi-finals with 4 goals so far. Valued at around £22m and with a contract at Bayern Munich until 2013, it’s debatable whether he’ll be amongst the crop of youngsters Ancelotti is rumoured to want at Chelsea next season.

Another German said to be on Carlo Ancelotti’s hit list is 21 year old Mesut Ozil. The talented midfielder has definitely impressed with his World Cup performances so far and with just one year left on his contract at Werder Bremen, it’s inevitable the top clubs will be sniffing round. The player himself says “To the top players the Premier League is attractive. You look at what Manchester United and Chelsea have achieved over the last five years and you see it would be easy to be successful at two clubs like that. I see what Michael Ballack achieved at Chelsea and the quality of players he played with and the temptation becomes obvious. Trophies are what matters to me. There are two teams in England always at the top and off course that`s attractive. But the same is true for La Liga. They are the strongest leagues in the world.” Sounds like he’s hedging his bets to get the best deal to me but whether that deal comes from Chelsea, we’ll just have to see.

So now onto the ‘biggie’ and the People has us down for both Kaka and Fernando Torres in deals totaling a massive £100m. They don’t offer much in the way of supporting evidence but I suppose Kaka had a pretty disappointing last season in La Liga and Torres isn’t exactly covering himself with glory at the World Cup, so that has to make them candidates!

Onto the one rumour that always makes me feel a bit of optimism – and Sergio Aguero seems to be back on the Chelsea radar. He might not have been an ever-present for Argentina at the World Cup but the £20million rated Atletico Madrid forward, with quality and age on his side could be exactly the sort of signing to put a smile back on our faces.

And whilst most of the above might be predictable links, we now have a new name added to the arena in the form of Brazilian midfielder Ramires. The 23 year old Brazilian international is said to have caught our eye and his agent Luis Carlini suggests “Many clubs from the big European leagues have been in contact about Ramires. Chelsea and Bayern have spoken to Benfica but I can’t say more.” So, not exactly a certainty but the versatile midfielder plays a right sided role for Benfica and his pace down that side would certainly be a blessing at Chelsea.

Which is fact and which is fiction though?
